Inchrye is a delightful and typical traditional estate lodge overlooking Lindores Loch in the north of Fife. It is perfectly situated between Perth (14 miles) with its superb shopping and leisure facilities and historic St Andrews (17 miles) 'the home of golf' - ideal for exploring not only the Fife coast with its fine beaches and picturesque fishing villages, but also the central Highlands and even the west coast.
Inchrye is a house in which character and charm combine happily with every modern comfort. The cosy hexagonal sitting room, from which presumably in bygone times the lodge keeper kept watch for arriving visitors, has a vaulted ceiling and open fire and there is a further little 'snug', also with open fire, for curling up with a good book away from the television. The spacious, country style kitchen, again with open fire, is bright and well equipped and both have excellent views over the loch. Please note there are three steps up to the kitchen, bedrooms and bathroom.
Outside, there is an enclosed courtyard to back and side (clothes drier, furniture) and above that extensive sloping lawns. There is plenty of private parking both within and outside the gates.
Fly fishing is available for rainbow trout on Lindores Loch, boats and permits may be obtained within 100 yards of the Cottage.
In addition to St Andrews, many of Fife's excellent golf courses are close by, the nearest being the British Open Qualifying course at Ladybank (3m, shops, pubs).
The area is rich in associations with Mary Queen of Scots; her lovely turreted palace at Falkland is just 8 miles from Inchrye, or, from Kinross (17m all facilities) you can take a boat trip across Loch Leven to the now ruined island castle from which she made her dramatic bid for freedom. Near the bustling market town of Cupar (8m, good restaurants) is Lorimer's Hill of Tarvit House. From Cupar or Ladybank, too, you can leave the car and catch the train to Edinburgh (42m by road, 1hr by train).
Heating is by oil central heating (£20 INCLUDED) and open fires (basket of logs INCLUDED, more available for purchase). Electricity is INCLUDED. Bed-linen and towels are INCLUDED. Up to two small, well behaved pets are welcome. No smoking in bedrooms, please.
Parents of very young children are warned that Inchrye is very close to the loch and the minor road (B937 - quiet at night but some traffic by day) and the gardens slope down without a barrier to the courtyard wall behind.
