Three miles north-west of Lochgilphead (shops, hotels, swimming-pool, golf), Creagen Cottage - newly and comfortably prepared as a holiday cottage - stands detached, on a farm, in its own sizeable grass garden, at the side of the towpath which runs alongside the Crinan Canal from Cairnbaan (1 mile) to the well-known West Coast yacht-haven and beauty-spot of Crinan Harbour (4 miles). It is easily reached being just a few yards before Lock 11 on the far side of the canal from the B841 and tenants have a great view of the fishing-boats and sea-going yachts as they pass through in the daytime from Loch Fyne, or moor overnight before exiting into the Atlantic the following day. The 200 year old Canal is often referred to as the 'most beautiful short-cut in Britain' and the immediate scenery is indeed spectacular.
The National Nature Reserve of Moine Mhor with its wealth of birdlife, rare plants, dragonflies and butterflies etc. is immediately west of the cottage; while to the south is all of the lovely Mull of Kintyre and the possibility of boat-trips to the islands of Gigha, Jura and Islay from West Loch Tarbert. Northwards, there are fine views of the Western Isles as you drive to Oban (about 30 miles) where there are scores of boat trips (Mull, Iona, Staffa, etc) and land excursions to be enjoyed. En route, Kilmartin Glen with its prehistoric stone-circles, ring-marked rocks, carvings and remnants of The Kingdom of Dalriada, birthplace of the 'Scots', should also certainly be visited. Both Cairnbaan and Crinan have excellent hotel restaurants.
Heating by open-fire and oil fired central-heating is INCLUDED. Bed-linen and towels are INCLUDED. Pets are welcome. There is an extra single put-u-up bed available for hire.
