Question: how can you be in part of Edinburgh, on a main bus route to the city centre, and yet be tucked away in a rural, riverside setting at the end of a leafy lane? Answer: at Dowies Mill, Cramond. This delightful studio apartment on the ground floor of a 17th century converted cottage on the banks of the River Almond has been completely refurbished to a high standard, with wood burning stove, well equipped kitchen and luxury bathroom. There is a double bed folds which folds down from the wall, is light and user-friendly and which can be curtained off during the day. There is a small sitting area on the riverbank and guests can enjoy riverside walks in this most picturesque area of town.
Cramond Island is reached at low tide (via a tidal causeway) where the river meets the Firth of Forth by the harbour. A small passenger ferry crosses to the Rosebury Estate where a path leads to the Forth Rail and Road bridges at South Queensferry
The local pub is just 3 minutes walk away. There is another on the pretty harbourside (sailing club, bistro and coffee shop), three excellent golf courses within a mile, and a swimming pool just a little further away.
Heating by gas central heating (first £15 INCLUDED). Electricity INCLUDED. Bed linen and towels may be hired. Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome. Sorry, no smokers.
Special rates apply for Edinburgh Festival and New Year periods. Please note that this is a studio apartment, and there is no separate bedroom.
