The misty Isle of Skye is rightly one of the most evocative and beloved of the Scottish Islands, and one of the most evocative spots on the island must surely be Dunvegan, on its west coast, the ancient seat of the clan MacLeod, with its castle and legendary Fairy Flag.

Just four miles from Dunvegan (shops, hotel) is Orbost House, an imposing 18th century country mansion surrounded by three acres of garden grounds, and with spectacular views out across the Atlantic to the island of Rum.  The West Wing of the house has now been converted into two spacious holiday apartments.   We offer the one on the first floor which is perfectly situated for these glorious sea and mountain views.  It has  been recently modernised and refurbished, and it is now a bright and cosy holiday home, accessed from the main courtyard where there is ample parking.

Within a short walk, down a quiet farm road, there is a sandy beach where children can play happily for hours, exploring the rock pools.  Further away, but still within easy walking distance, are MacLeod's Maidens (rock stacks rising from the sea) and MacLeod's Tables (high, flat-topped hills.)  Serious climbers will be drawn inexorably to the mighty Cuillins, but there are plenty of opportunities round about for gentler exercise - pony trekking, boat trips to view the basking seals or simply exploring the Duirinish and Waternish peninsulae close by.

Skye's main town of Portree (all facilities) is 20 miles away.  However, there is no need to go that far for a meal out.  The world famous Three Chimneys restaurant is just up the road, and good food at a more reasonable price can also be found at the Stein Inn or the Lochbay Seafood restaurant.

Heating is by electric storage heaters (electricity charged at cost - the usual bill is between £8 and £30 per week).  Bed-linen and towels are INCLUDED.  Sorry, no pets.
