Just 20 yards from the harbour in the picturesque little fishing village of St Monans in Fife, West Shore is a traditional old fisherman's cottage dating from about 1600.

Though now fully modernised, it retains all of its character and many traditional features, such as the beamed ceiling in the spacious attic sitting room, where the fishermen used to dry their nets. Being on three levels, there are quite a few steps in the property, some of which are quite steep.

Unusually for the cottages which huddle round the harbour in the oldest part of the village, West Shore has a large, sunny and secluded garden, with a patio area (furniture) and a lockable shed, where there are some serviceable cycles which visitors are welcome to use.  There is ample parking on the nearby harbourside, and access to the house is by a narrow wynd for pedestrians only.

The narrow winding streets of the village have a range of interesting small shops and galleries, and there is an excellent seafood restaurant at the end of the harbour.  In fact the string of little villages along this coast have a particularly high number of well known restaurants and pubs serving excellent meals.

Historic St Andrews with its golf courses, university, beaches and ruined cathedral is only 13 miles away.  A walk along the coast will bring you to Elie (3m shops, pubs, restaurants) where there is an excellent golf course and beach and where boats and surfboards can be hired.

Inland, visit lovely Falkland Palace (22m), Kellie Castle and its gardens (4m) and Scotland's Secret Bunker (6m), or take a day trip to Edinburgh (46m).  Fishermen have a choice of good fly fishing at Lindores (22m) or Loch Leven (40m), and if you've got that far, why not continue on the motorway north, which will quickly bring you to the Highlands above Perth or west to the Trossachs or Loch Lomond, all quite feasible for a one-day excursion.

Heating is by gas central heating (INCLUDED), electricity (INCLUDED), and open fire.  Bed linen is INCLUDED, and towels are available for hire.  Pets are welcome by arrangement.  Non-smokers preferred.
