The little village of Kilmichael Glassary lies just off the 'main' road from Oban to Lochgilphead in one of the most attractive parts of the west of Scotland. Kilmichael Cottage is a detached, whitewashed, stone-built cottage which stands in its own large, enclosed grass garden (furniture) which is ideal for children and dogs. The little unclassified village road runs past it to the front and meanders up to the southern tip of Loch Awe, while to the rear there are uninterrupted views over the open countryside.
There is off-road parking for two cars.
Inside, the spacious accommodation has been finished to a very high standard. There is a comfortable lounge with wood burning stove and French doors to the garden, a separate dining room and a modern, well-equipped kitchen. The double bedroom has its own en suite shower room, and there is a sizeable twin bed room and separate bathroom.
This is an ideal situation for those who want to get away from it all without being too remote. It will also be popular with sailors, as the Crinan Canal, which joins the Firth of Clyde to the Atlantic, starts just a couple of miles away at Cairnbaan. There are several excellent hotel/restaurants around the Canal, and visitors can spend many relaxing hours just watching the boats pass through.
The nearest place for shopping is Lochgilphead (4m) where there is also a golf course. 14 miles further to the south on the Kintyre Peninsula is the little port of Tarbert, where ferries run to Lochranza on Arran. (The more adventurous could also take the car ferry to Islay from Kennacraig, just 4 miles beyond.)
The cottage is in the magical Kilmartin Glen, which is at the centre of some of the most fascinating areas of prehistoric sites in Scotland. The oldest monuments there are 5000 years old (there are some Celtic rock carvings at Kilmichael itself.) Further up the coast, horticulture enthusiasts will love Arduaine Gardens, and, to the south and round on to Loch Fyne, Crarae Glen.
There is plenty of good walking in the area and also some sizeable peaks for the more energetic to climb.
Heating is by oil central heating and wood burning stove (initial supply of fuel INCLUDED). A combined total of £15 towards heating and electricity is INCLUDED. Bed linen and towels are INCLUDED. Up to two well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement. No smoking in the cottage.
