For a holiday where you can really 'get away from it all', in scenic and peaceful surroundings, Chiskan must certainly be a preferred choice.  Standing almost at the tip of the Mull of Kintyre (much celebrated in song by Paul McCartney, and you can see why) some 8 miles south of Campbeltown, 'the furthest town from anywhere' it has fine open views all around, but particularly to the front where you can see right across the Firth to the Ayrshire coast.  Just a few yards up the road, there is also a good view of Ailsa Craig towering out of the water.

The house stands detached on a peaceful single track road, in the midst of fields.  It is surrounded by a large enclosed grass garden, and the nearest habitation is the farm about a quarter of a mile along the road.  Being all on one level, with a ramp to the front door, it is a good choice for tenants of limited mobility.   Inside, what strikes one first is its spaciousness.  The big, modern and well-equipped dining kitchen is open plan through to an equally large dining room (with piano) and then there are sliding doors to a comfortable lounge, with living flame fire.  Both sitting and dining rooms have large picture windows to take advantage of the views.  There is a  conservatory behind the sitting room and the kitchen door opens on to a small decking area.  Three bedrooms (2 doubles and a twin with extra pull-out bed), a bathroom and separate shower room complete the attractive, warm and very practical accommodation.

The nearest shop, tea room and pub are at Southend, some 2½ miles from the cottage.  Campbeltown has all facilities, supermarkets etc.  It is a historic town boasting no less than three distilleries, one of which offers guided tours.  It also has a lively, year-round music scene,  with several festivals catering for folk, Scottish, and classical  taste.  There are golf courses at Dunaverty and Machrihanish, where there is also an excellent beach, popular with canoeists and surfers.  The coast round the cottage is dotted with little beaches and coves, some very private and secluded, where you will most likely be completely alone.

This is essentially a place to chill and relax, with perhaps a little walking, cycling or lazing on the beach thrown in.  If you go right down to the tip of the Mull, you may well see golden eagles, and seals are frequent visitors to the shore line.  If, however, you do find yourself thinking of a change of scene, you can drive up the Mull to Claonaig, where the ferry runs across to Lochranza on Arran, to Tayinloan, where you can cross to Gigha and, perhaps, take in the Achamore Gardens there.  Or go up to Kennacraig and take the boat to Islay.  In Campbeltown you can arrange a sea tour round the Kintyre Peninsula or a day visit to Sanda Island which has its own pub and lighthouse.  The most likely scenario, however, is that once you have reached this lovely spot, you will be very reluctant to leave again.

Heating is by total control electric central heating (£20 INCLUDED).  Bed linen and towels are INCLUDED.  Sorry, no pets or smoking within the house.  Wireless Broadband is available (subject to provider).

Our second year here and there is still hundreds of things we have not seen. Amazing to have within a short distance East, South and West coastlines. Thanks for our stay in your beautiful cottage with so much at its feet.

Many thanks for a wonderful stay in Chiskan Cottage. The views are breathtaking and the cottage itself is incredibly comfortable. Great weather and just the relaxing week we needed

Two wonderful weeks getting to know this part of Scotland. Definitely the best holiday cottage we have stayed in, everything you could ask for. Beautiful beaches, fascinating wildlife (even the cows) and such amazing skies at night - so many stars. A holiday to remember.

Mr and Mrs Higson, Lancashire 26/09/2009

We have loved it here in this pretty pink bungalow. It has been so peaceful, scenic and comfortable that we have had to force ourselves to go out. We liked the local beaches and spotted many seals on the rocks. This is our favourite holiday cottage and it has been a lovely birthday break.

Chiskan cottage is beautiful, very comfortable with everything you need. Location is fantastic and peaceful, reminded us of New Zealand. Kids loved the wonderful beaches. We will definitely be coming back to this beautiful area of Scotland
