There are many lovely spots and attractive little towns in Scotland's beautiful and peaceful Border country. One of the most attractive of all must surely be historic Melrose, which, with its ruined medieval Abbey and Walter Scott's home of Abbotsford just nearby, nestles between the legendary Eildon hills and the River Tweed
Weirhill Place is a substantial Georgian town house set in a quiet cul de sac just a few minutes from the town centre. It extends over four floors and offers spacious, gracious and most elegant accommodation. The light, bright and beautifully furnished rooms comprise a well fitted kitchen, a shower room and a comfortable sitting room on the ground floor, while stairs take you down to a dining room which has a superb ambience and is perfect for romantic evening dining. Upstairs is a separate television room, a twin bedroom and bathroom, with a huge double bedroom and single bedroom on the top floor.
Go round the side of the house and through a little gate and you are in a beautiful and well tended garden, with paving and flower beds, which is a real suntrap and has a gate at the far end opening onto the Weirhill, where stands the church, and where a path will have you down at the riverside in a couple of minutes. There is also secure storage there for cycles, sports equipment etc.
Weirhill Place perfectly placed for all you could want to do, both in the immediate vicinity and further afield. Melrose's award winning restaurants, pubs and interesting shops are within a five minute walk, as are the tennis courts at the Gibson Park. The Greenyards, Melrose's famous rugby ground where the Sevens game was born, is equally close, while a half-hour or so's walk from the door will have you atop one of the Eildons, with wonderful views on all sides. You will pass the golf course on the way, and there are numerous others within a few minutes drive.
The Southern Upland Way can be joined within half a mile of the house, while St Cuthbert's Way runs from Melrose to Lindisfarne, so walkers really are spoiled for choice. There is riding 5 miles away near Earlston, a swimming pool at Galashiels (4m), or you can catch the hourly bus into Edinburgh (34m) for a day in the City. Fishermen can fish the Tweed (permits required) or many local lochs, canoeists will also find the river much to their liking, while there is mountain biking at Glentress (18m).
In the surrounding area there are many castles, stately homes and delightful gardens to visit. It is but an hour's drive to the coast and the sandy beaches at Coldingham or the spectacular cliffs and seabird colonies at St Abbs. A week at Weirhill Place will be altogether too short and it is a house which you will want to return to again and again.
