Standing in its own trim grass garden backed by woodland at the side of a quiet country road in Glen Isla, it has only 3 or 4 houses in the immediate neighbourhood and is just 100 yards from Loch Lintrathen (Scottish Wildlife Trust bird-watching hide/restaurant).
Inside, Braefoot is furnished in a traditional style which is very comfortable and kept cosy by its efficient central heating. The sitting room is bright and sunny with an additional electric stove for added warmth. The style of the kitchen is large and full of character, with a dining area backed by windows which give a wonderful view of the many birds which frequent the garden.
All on one level, the bedrooms are attractive and comfortable. The double bedroom has an en suite shower room and the fact that there are two single bedrooms will make the cottage particularly attractive for parties of friends who might prefer a little privacy. The family bathroom completes the accommodation.
Outside, there is a sizeable enclosed garden with plenty of parking and a large, secluded grassed garden area.
With Lintrathen close on one side and the RSPB site at Kinnordy almost as close on the other there is no doubt that Braefoot will be a first choice for ornithological enthusiasts.
There is lots to do in the area aside from the wildlife. Nearby Kirriemuir is the birthplace of J M Barrie, the creator of Peter Pan, whose house is open to the public. Camera Obscura is another attraction there, with amazing views of the surrounding countryside.
Glens Isla, Clova and Prose, often called Scotland’s best kept secret, are within easy reach of the cottage and offer excellent walking and cycling. Glen Isla joins the Braemar road and having the Glenshee skiing area just 12 miles away adds to Braefoot’s year round charm.
To the east, the Angus coast is accessible in under an hour. The Montrose Basin is another good place to see shoreline and wetland birds and there is a superb beach at Lunan Bay. South of Arbroath is Carnoustie with its championship golf course and more beaches.
For some retail therapy, Dundee is just the place. There you can also visit Captain Scott’s vessel Discovery which is moored in the harbour or take the Tay Bridge across to Fife and St Andrews. Those with an interest in stately homes should not miss the birthplace of the late Queen Mother at Glamis Castle, while just north of Perth, Scone Palace is another rewarding destination.
There are 12 golf-courses within one hour's drive, pony trekking within 8 miles, a choice of hotels/pubs within a short drive and an excellent craft shop and farm shop just nearby.
Please note: while we make every effort to be as accurate as possible, the actual position of the cottage indicated on the map above and the proximity of the amenities in the Local Info section cannot be guaranteed to be precise and should be used as a guide only.
