When you visit these lovely and unspoiled valleys today, you can easily believe that you have discovered a little bit of heaven. On the east side of Glen Clova, nestling against a stand of trees and with wonderful open views across, down and up the glen, is Adielin Cottage. This delightful, traditional, detached cottage has been carefully restored as a comfortable and cosy holiday cottage.
Don’t be fooled by the two doors. While this might once have been two cottages, it is definitely just one now and a very spacious one at that. The new windows, while very much in traditional style, let in plenty of light and this effect is enhanced by the careful choice of furnishings.
The living room, with its warm open fire by which you can toast your toes in the evening, is very inviting, with the dining area to the back of the room. The well-proportioned kitchen is modern and has been thoughtfully equipped with all appliances.
All on one level there are two bedrooms, a double and a twin. The double bedroom is very spacious and the twin will appeal to adults and children alike with its carefully co-ordinated soft furnishings. The modern bath/shower room completes this high quality accommodation.
Outside the cottage is surrounded by its own grass garden (with furniture) on the quiet, single track road that trundles up to the top of the glen to turn and come back down the other side, it is a peaceful and lovely setting, where children can play in safety and adults can relax and unwind.
You can walk straight out from the door into the hills, fish in the South Esk river or the two nearby trout lochs and the estate can also arrange stalking in season.
There is a good golf course at Kirriemuir (with shops, hotels and restaurants) just 10 minutes down the road, which is also the birthplace of J M Barrie, the creator of Peter Pan. Dundee (with all facilities, leisure centres, etc) is only 40 minutes away, where you can visit Captain Scott's vessel Discovery.
There is a superb beach at Lunan Bay (34 miles), or you can cross the Tay Bridge at Dundee and head for St Andrews and the other attractions of Fife. In the other direction, you can follow nearby Glen Isla up to the skiing area at Glenshee and onwards to Braemar (50 miles) for some serious walking and exploring the beauties of Royal Deeside.
The late Queen Mother's family home at Glamis is close by. You can visit Highland Perthshire, Pitlochry, Killiekrankie, Blair Atholl and even go onwards up to Inverness - all of these are perfectly accessible from Adielin Cottage.
