Timber lodges come can come in various standards and degrees of comfort, but we can honestly say that the Whitehills Lodge is a very superior specimen indeed!  It is one of four, occupying a beautiful situation in lovely Glen Isla near Alyth.

It faces away from the other lodges on the site, with expansive views across the valley of the Isla to the hills beyond.  These views can be enjoyed either from behind the patio doors, or from the excellent decking area (furniture) which runs round two sides of the lodge.  There are lots of picnic spots along the river, ideal for relaxing on hot summer days and splendid walking in the hills round about.

Inside, the lodge has been furnished and equipped to a very high standard and with considerable style.  The spacious, open plan, living area has an electric flame effect stove, and there are three bedrooms and shower room.

This is s truly idyllic spot, where deer may come down to feed around the lodge morning and evening, and where you are also likely to see squirrels, hares, and buzzards, with sheep, cattle and sometimes gentle Clydesdale horses grazing in the adjoining fields.  It is half a mile by track (suitable, with care, for ordinary cars) from the nearby country road, so is both peaceful and safe for children and pets.

Glen Isla is one of the beautiful Angus Glens (the others are Prosen and Clova) which have been called Scotland's best-kept secret.  At the top of the glen you join the A93 which will take you up to Braemar and Royal Deeside, with ski-ing at Glenshee in season on the way.  Alyth (9m) has shops and two excellent golf courses, while the prestigious Rosemount course at Blairgowrie (all facilities) is just 5 miles further to the west.  From there it is a pleasant drive across to the A9 at Dunkeld, where you can strike out for Aviemore, the Cairngorms and even Inverness.  On the way, be sure to visit the RSPB hide at the Loch of the Lowes, where in spring and summer you can see the magnificent ospreys on their nest or fishing for dinner in the loch.

To the south, Dundee, Fife and St Andrews and Perth are all readily accessible by car.  For somewhere so secluded and peaceful, the Whitehills location is still remarkably suitable for touring in all directions.

Heating is by electricity (first £15 INCLUDED).  Bed linen and towels are INCLUDED.  Well-behaved pet is welcome by arrangement.  No smoking in the lodge.

Wow! It's always nice coming to a place and finding it is as nice as it looks in the ad. This place is superb! had a lot of fun up at Glenshee snowboarding. Hope to be back next year. Many thanks.

What a fab time we have had at the lodge. Seeing in the New Year here was so relaxing. The views from the windows are beautiful. Waking up each morning to see all the different wildlife prints left in the snow was so exciting. The standard of the lodge was outstanding, clean, comfortable and fully equipped. We completed 4 jigsaws from the cupboard. Thank you for helping us have a fantastic end to 2010 and a brill start to 2011. Hope to see you again soon.

We all had such a good time up here in Scotland. There was just so much to do and not enough time to do it. The lodge was fab and it has to be said that this holiday was one of the best family holidays we have ever had. We have had a wonderful time and hope to be visiting again.

Thank you for providing such a lovely place to stay for our first visit to Scotland. The warm welcome was very gratefully received. Thankfully the sun was shining for most of our stay so we enjoyed most of the things that the owner suggested. We especially enjoyed our trip to Pitlochry and the Highland Safari Centre, where we got a chance to come face to face with the red deer.

First time staying in a lodge and now we're addicted! We've had a very comfortable stay and an enjoyable week travelling around the area. Would recommend a visit to Pitlochry - look for the dam/fly fishing and the fish ladder. Pub excellent for a spot of lunch/drink down by the river! It will take some beating our next lodge or we may come back!

Loved our stay here - home from home with peace and beautiful surroundings. Loved the wildlife at close quarters (deer and hares etc). Lovely walks and plenty to see and do near to lodge, or just chill out!! Thanks for a lovely break.

We have enjoyed solitude before returning to the fast lane. This is a terrific place! Many thanks!

This has been an amazing place to spend some time. The views are beautiful and the wildlife superb. Will recommend to all the hospitality and the fantastically laid out lodge. The owners should be commended for all the thought they have put into this lovely home.

Humphreys party, Lancashire 17/09/2011

We have thoroughly enjoyed our week in this lovely lodge. It is perfectly placed for all the sight-seeing, shopping and walking that we did. The lodge itself is fantastically kitted out. It literally had everything we needed - apart from phone signal -although that was quite liberating! We have been amazed by all the wildlife, especially so close to the lodge - we were regularly visited by deer, hare and owls as well as seeing other wildlife during our days out. All in all a fantastic week. We hope to return. Thank you.
