Pitcorthie is a lovely secluded estate of some fifty acres, which lies just inland from Elie (3 miles, with shops, pubs and restaurants) in the picturesque East Neuk of Fife.

At the end of a short drive and with a lovely open aspect to the front over a grassy quadrangle, Pitcorthie Cottage has been converted with great sympathy and imagination from the old stable block. The refurbishment has been carried out to a very high standard, with beautiful light oak floors throughout. It now offers bright and airy holiday accommodation, combined with a real 'roses round the door' appearance.
Immediately on entering the tiled hallway with its pine settle it is apparent that the cottage has a most pleasant atmosphere. The open plan living area makes it a very convivial house which everyone can enjoy together, whether cooking, eating or just relaxing. It is comfortably furnished in an interesting mix of styles, with both antique and modern pieces, but the overall result is both spacious and attractive. There is also a generous dining area and a very well-equipped kitchen area.
There can be no doubt which is the master bedroom! It is large enough to hold a respectable ceilidh, with a king-size bed and a walnut davenport in the corner as a final elegant touch.
The twin bedroom, though smaller, is charmingly decorated in a jaunty blue which makes one think irresistibly of the seaside, which, after all, is not so far away. The bathroom is conveniently sited between the two bedrooms.
There is parking right at the door and guests have the use of the lawned area in front of the cottage. Access to the tennis court beyond the 'big house' can also be arranged.
This area has so much to offer visitors that it is difficult to know where to begin.
A major attraction is the fact that St Andrews, with its lovely sands, historic university, ruined castle, cathedral and (perhaps most importantly) its legendary golf courses, is only 8 miles away. The quaint little fishing villages along the coast are another.
Inland, the likes of Kellie Castle with its lovely gardens, Lorimer's Hill of Tarvit, Mary Queen of Scots' fairytale palace at Falkland and even, though in a completely different way, Scotland's Secret Bunker near Anstruther, will prove irresistible to those interested in history. Those who wish to range further afield will find good road connections to Perth (36 miles) to the north, while a day trip to Edinburgh, either by car (42 miles) or by train from Markinch (11 miles) is perfectly feasible.
There are lots of other golf courses in the immediate area, beautiful coastal walks, an adventure playground, miniature railway, boating and crazy golf at Craigtoun Country Park (10 miles). In fact there are all the ingredients for a holiday which can be as active or as relaxing as you like. There are also a number of excellent restaurants in the area.
