In a peaceful rural situation right in the centre of the 'Kingdom' of Fife, yet just half an hour from St Andrews and 40 minutes from Edinburgh, Schoolhouse Cottage snuggles into the woodland behind it, while to the front and side there are broad vistas across the rich Fife farmland.

Overview

Converted with great flair and imagination from an old stone outbuilding, it is a perfect base from which to explore the beaches, golf courses and historic attractions of this most lovely area of Scotland. Yet it is only when you step inside that you realise that Schoolhouse Cottage is somewhere very special indeed.

You are met with an immense, sunken sitting room, with wood block flooring and an open fire, furnished with couches and settees which just beg you to relax in them. Comfortable window seats running right round the large, double-glazed windows are a further attractive feature.

Two further steps take you down to the open plan dining area and then to the ingeniously concealed and well-equipped kitchen. A short staircase leads to the luxurious gallery bedroom with bathroom off. There is a further bathroom downstairs.

Outside, there is a sheltered and secluded patio garden (with furniture and barbecue), ideal for relaxing on warm summer evenings. You may share this at times with Phreddie and Ringo, two semi-tame pheasants, who regularly patrol the area.

The villages of Kingskettle (3 miles) and Ladybank (4 miles, with shops and pub) are easily accessible, while the bustling town of Cupar (8 miles, with all facilities), has many attractive shops, good restaurants and a rail link to Edinburgh.

Fernie Castle Hotel is about 5 miles along the main A914, while Mary Queen of Scots' beloved Falkland Palace is just 4 miles in the other direction.

The quaint and attractive fishing villages of the East Neuk of Fife are just over 20 miles away, while those with an interest in history or gardens will enjoy a visit to the National Trust properties at Hill of Tarvit (6 miles), Scotstarvit Tower (5 miles) or Kellie Castle (18 miles).

For visitors who wish to explore further afield, Schoolhouse Cottage is within 20 minutes drive of the main M90 motorway going north to Perth, so the central Highlands, Aberfoyle, the Trossachs and even the west coast are all accessible for a day's outing.

In addition to the 'home of golf' at St Andrews, there are golf courses just about everywhere, with uncrowded fairways and reasonable green fees, where visitors are most welcome. Fishing and riding are available locally and the area is also excellent for walking and cycling.
