Knockhill of Nydie has been created out of two traditional stone-built farm cottages to make a charming and spacious holiday home and is situated in an area of pretty woodland on the Nydie Mains Farm Estate just outside St. Andrews (all facilities) in the Kingdom of Fife. Set well back from the road, it overlooks the valley of the River Eden and has superb views over the Tay estuary to the foothills of the Grampians. It is particularly popular with golfing parties and large family groups.
The centrally heated cottage is comfortably furnished and very well-appointed. Its rural setting is a haven for wildlife, children and pets can play safely in its enclosed garden (swings, sand pit), and there is ample parking. The Estate also has a private stretch of water on the River Eden, for which fishing permits are available.
For those who prefer not to have "a good walk spoiled (!)" there are many delightful country walks in the surrounding area, fine beaches at St Andrews (3m) and Tentsmuir, just beyond Leuchars, and many places of interest in the immediate area to be visited. There are National Trust properties at Kellie Castle, with its fine gardens, and Mary Queen of Scots' fairytale Falkland Palace (combine it with a visit to the Scottish Deer Park and keep everybody happy!). Further afield, Edinburgh is within an hour's drive and Dundee just 12 miles away across the Tay. The Glens of Angus behind it are well worth a visit, and Royal Deeside and the Highlands above Perth, as well as the Trossachs and Loch Lomond are all within a day's drive.
