This traditional cottage dates back to the 1800s and has been completely refurbished to a high standard to create a very stylish and modern holiday home that is still in keeping with its beautiful natural surroundings.
The living area is open plan and very spacious with cosy seating around the Aga wood-burning stove in its traditional stone feature fireplace making it the ideal spot for curling up in the evening. There is a dining area alongside that leads through to a vast kitchen area that is very well-equipped with built-in appliances, a large range cooker and plenty of space to cook or bake. A handy utility/boot room off the kitchen houses the laundry facilities and provides useful extra storage.
There is an additional WC and a TV room with satellite TV that the party can spread out into to cater for differing viewing tastes. There is also a light and spacious double bedroom with en suite shower room on this level.
Upstairs are four further bedrooms that are all bright and beautifully presented. The two double bedrooms both have king-size beds and sleek en suite bathrooms and the two neat twin bedrooms share a large, modern family bathroom with a bath and separate walk-in shower.
Outside there is plenty of parking right by the door and surrounding the property is a landscaped grassed garden with seating. Beyond the garden and beneath a towering monkey puzzle tree you find the natural landscape of the national park, including Duchray Water, a bubbling river that runs alongside the property. From here there are numerous short walks and forest trails to be enjoyed.
The cottage is set in the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park that is part of the larger Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. As such there are lots of natural mountain biking trails in the surrounding countryside, as well as plenty of different walking routes.
If you fancy tackling something strenuous there are several munros in the nearby area including the mighty Ben Lawers (9 miles), which stands at nearly 4,000 feet! There is also plenty of fishing nearby and a swimming pool only 1.5 miles away.
Aberfoyle (2 miles) is the nearest place to stock up on supermarket supplies and there are a range of interesting little independent shops and an 18-hole golf club that welcomes visitors. Just outside Aberfoyle the Lodge Forest Visitor Centre (4 miles) has some picturesque forest walking trails, a waterfall and a red squirrel hide. It is also home to a treetop adventure course featuring two of Britain’s longest zip wires.
Further north at Loch Katrine you can go out on the Steamship Sir Walter Scott, a peaceful boat trip that allows you to relax and take in the beautiful scenery whilst listening to an experienced local guide.
On the way towards Stirling the Blair Drummond Safari Park (16 miles) has a whole host of exotic wildlife from elephants and giraffes to tigers and zebras, as well as native animals such as deer and otters. It also has pedal boats, a miniature funfair and some charming little picnic spots.
The famous university city of Stirling (22 miles) has a wide array of shops, pubs and restaurants. Walking tours explaining the city’s history are available and you can even try a spooky late night ghost tour.
History enthusiasts will enjoy a guided tour of historic Stirling Castle, one of Scotland’s largest and most important castles and the National Wallace Monument is also worth a visit. It is quite a climb up over 200 steps to the top but it is definitely worth it for the views that can be admired from there. The bustling city of Glasgow (28 miles) is easily reachable for a day trip, as is the town of Falkirk (32 miles), where you can see the famous Kelpie sculptures, the largest equine sculptures in the world!
