Cleverly designed within the attractive stone walls and arches of a former Victorian coach house, the Duck House (it once housed the owners' ducks), stands in a peaceful and secluded courtyard.

The courtyard also housed some stables and a blacksmith's forge in former times but is now used only for storage. The house stands a mile up the Tamano farm road (some potholes) off the B8033 just 7 miles north of Dunblane in Perthshire and 3 miles south of Braco. It can be easily reached via the Edinburgh - Stirling - Perth motorway, however there is no passing traffic and so nothing to disturb the peace of this rural idyll.
Inside its arched entrance, the Duck House gives the impression of a Scandinavian style, open-plan gallery with its delicate colours, pale woodwork and clean-cut, spacious interior. It is light and airy from the large windows and pleasantly warmed by background central heating.
The sitting room has comfortable seating around the its wood-burning stove with French doors that lead out to a small patio area (with furniture). The kitchen, with its large arched window, is particularly pleasingly laid out, with the kitchen area to one side of the room and units that come across to form a partial divide between it and the dining area at the window.
The open staircase leads upstairs to the three bedrooms, a double and two twins, giving the house a particularly bright aspect. The bedrooms are all neatly laid out with traditional coombed ceilings. Taller guests may have to pay attention to the headroom (particularly in the double room), but the Velux windows give views out and plenty of light. A family bathroom completes the accommodation.
The house faces across peaceful wooded countryside towards the Ochil Hills whose green horizons hide the Kingdom of Fife on the far side.
As well as offering a comfortable and restful retreat (there is even a stone seat by the duck pond to sit and dream by), there are pleasant of gentle walks in the immediate area, where you can often glimpse deer or foxes.
It is not often that such peace and quiet can be combined with such a central and accessible situation, but this is certainly the case here. Dunblane and pretty Bridge of Allan are just a few minutes down the road and historic Stirling, with its castle, Wallace Monument, University and the battlefield of Bannockburn are also within a short drive.
Both Edinburgh and Glasgow can easily be reached for day trips - you can take the train from Stirling if you want to avoid the hassle of parking in the city. To the north beyond Perth you can visit Lochs Tummel and Rannoch, or even continue further towards the Cairngorms, while the Trosssachs and Loch Lomond are other must-see destinations.
For those of an active disposition, the area offers plenty of golf courses, fishing and riding, so whatever you choose to do at the Duckhouse, boredom is not an option!
