Callwood Smiddy is a truly delightful cottage, charmingly designed within the original 3 feet-thick stone walls of a blacksmith's forge dating back 200 years.

The cottage is double-glazed, detached and self-contained, with a lot of time, thought and work having been invested into the cottage’s conversion and refurbishment to bring it up-to-date. The comfort and convenience now found internally matches the very pretty views externally perfectly.
The cosy open plan living area has a seating area with a wood-burning stove that churns out the heat and makes the additional electric heating almost redundant. The dining table has been positioned beside the window so wildlife viewing can continue uninterrupted even during meals. The kitchen area extends along the back wall and is well-equipped and very practical.
All on one level, there are two bedrooms, a double and a twin. The double room is stylishly decorated and furnished, while the equally attractive twin bedroom makes the best possible use of the space available. A modern shower room completes the accommodation.
The cottage has its own access and parking. It also has a pretty, enclosed garden where guests have the choice of a secluded paved seating area (with furniture) to the rear, facing the woods and hills of Breadalbane on the far side of Loch Tay, or the lawn to the side (with furniture), which affords attractive and restful views over the surrounding countryside.
The cottage is 4 miles west of Aberfeldy (with shops, hotels and restaurants) in Perthshire, so is ideally placed for exploring all of central Scotland and the mid-west coast.
It is also well placed for golf and walking on the surrounding hills and watersports and fishing on lovely Loch Tay (2 miles). The busy tourist towns of Pitlochry and Perth are 30 minutes and 45 minutes away respectively. There is a pub and restaurant in the village of Kenmore within two miles.
In addition to golf, watersports, shops and restaurants, Kenmore also offers the Crannog Centre, a reconstructed Iron Age crannog (or stilt house) in the loch, where visitors can gain an insight into life in those days and also try their hand at age-old crafts. Beyond Kenmore, a road leads over the shoulder of Schiehallion, the ‘fairy mountain’, to Loch Tummel and then on to Loch Rannoch. Here there are endless opportunities for hill walking and climbing.
Aberfeldy is the nearest town of any size and has a distillery, wonderful café/bookshop, golf course, leisure centre and even a cinema. Just a little further to the east at Grandtully, is a stretch of the Tay which is famous for kayaking and white water rafting, both of which can be available to guests. There is also a tempting chocolate shop in Grandtully for those who may prefer a sugar rush to an adrenaline rush!
