This trim, beautifully renovated, detached cottage has a superb situation on a hillside just north of Bridge of Cally (1.5 miles, with hotel and shop/PO) and 5 miles from Blairgowrie (with all facilities) in Highland Perthshire.

Birks of Cloquhat (if you want to sound like a true local, it is pronounced 'Clo-wat') sits in its own rough grass garden (with terrace and furniture), with parking at the door and sheep grazing on the hill behind. Right at the end of a tiny by-way, it has fabulous views over the surrounding countryside.
Inside, the renovation of the cottage has been carried out with care and a considerable sense of style. The result is that it is light, remarkably spacious and has a warm and welcoming ambience.
The living area is open plan with an archway linking up the different areas. The sitting area is at the front of the house so it is ideal for enjoying the views from the picture window. Stylish and comfortable L-shaped seating is centred round the lovely open fire that provides welcoming cheer when darkness falls. The modern and spacious dining kitchen is handily situated just round the corner if anyone feels like a quick snack or a refill. It is large and well-equipped with windows giving views of the hills behind. The large dining table provides enough space for even large parties to eat in comfort.
All on one level there are three bedrooms, two doubles and a twin, that are all very well presented. The master double bedroom has a king-size bed and its own en suite shower room with a large shower cubicle. The twin room is really jolly, with a distinctly nautical feel which will delight any younger members of the party, though it is perfectly suited to adults as well. The family bathroom with a shower over the bath completes the indoor accommodation.
Outside, the garden has lovely views to sit and admire from the terrace. Parents should be aware that there is a small stream which flows at the bottom of the garden in front of the cottage.
Just outside the gate, the road on which the cottage stands leads on to the Cateran Trail, a 64-mile waymarked trail through Perthshire and the Angus Glens.
It is one of the prime walking routes in the area. The caterans were cattle rustlers in the old days and the trail follows some of their old drove roads though the lonely glens.
You are guaranteed great walks right from the door, perhaps over to Kirkmichael (8 miles, with pubs and a shop) or back to Blairgowrie, where you will also find the prestigious Rosemount golf course, just one of many excellent courses in the area. Skiers, too, will find Birks of Cloquhat perfectly situated for the Glenshee ski area and equipment can be hired in Bridge of Cally. To view the magnificent scenery on four legs, pony trekking is available at Glenmarkie.
Less active guests too will find plenty to interest them locally. Favourite destinations include Scone Palace (21 miles) the ancient coronation site of the Kings of Scotland, haunted Glamis Castle (21 miles) the birthplace of the late Queen Mother, or by continuing north past Glenshee, less than an hour will bring you to Braemar (28 miles) and Balmoral (37 miles) on gorgeous Royal Deeside.
For a family day at the seaside, Lunan Bay (43 miles) on the Angus coast cannot be bettered, or you could enjoy a day trip to historic St Andrews. For a 'good night out', the famous Pitlochry Festival Theatre is only about 16 miles away.

Bed linen and towels are INCLUDED. Electricity is INCLUDED. Heating is by oil central heating (first £20 INCLUDED with any additional payable at the end of your stay) and open fire (starter pack INCLUDED). Water is from a private source which is UV filtered and regularly tested; however (as is typical in many parts of Scotland) it can become discoloured, particularly after heavy rainfall. Guests may therefore prefer to bring bottled water to drink. WiFi is available at a charge of £10 per week (subject to a fair usage policy). A maximum of 1 dog is welcome at an additional charge (1 large, 1 medium or 1 small). If you wish to bring any other pets please contact us and we will see what we can do. No smoking.
