Is a most charming little house, spacious, light, extremely comfortable, and it is also perfectly placed for exploring the lovely Angus glens and further afield to Braemar or the coast of Angus and Aberdeenshire.

It has lovely open views across the surrounding countryside to the hills beyond.  The owner's house is the only other dwelling nearby but it is completely invisible from the cottage, so privacy and seclusion are assured.

The first thing that impresses you as you enter the cottage is its spaciousness. The large, south facing sitting room has windows on three sides, including French doors which open to an attractive and enclosed grass garden (furniture), perfect for relaxing on lazy summer evenings.  This is adjacent to an excellent and very well-equipped dining kitchen, the size of which would not disgrace an average farmhouse.  The delightful double bedroom has a super king size bed.

The nearest of the glens to the cottage is probably Glen Isla, which offers wonderful walking opportunities.  But all the Angus Glens should be visited while you are in the area.  Each has its own distinctive character and charm, yet all are peaceful and unspoiled.   The superb beach at Lunan Bay is 35 miles away, and nearby Kirriemuir (6m) and Alyth both have all facilities and  good golf courses.    The championship course at Carnoustie is also quite easily accessible from the cottage.   Fishing is  available locally  - Lintrathen Reservoir is just up the road, as is the RSPB reserve at Kinnordy.

For a bit of urban bustle, Dundee (24m) may be the answer.  Captain Scott's vessel Discovery may be visited in the harbour, and from there, too, the Tay Bridge will take you across to Fife and historic St Andrews.  The late Queen Mother's family home of Glamis Castle is just 7 miles down the road and is well worth a visit.

Perth (25m) is an attractive town with interesting shops and a full range of leisure facilities.  Pitlochry, with its famous Festival Theatre in the Hills is 34 miles distant.

Oil central heating, electricity and bed linen are INCLUDED and towels may be hired.  Two well behaved dogs are welcome by arrangement.  Sorry, no smoking in the cottage.

If you are not pleased and content with this cottage, you will not be satisfied anywhere. This is by far the best we have been in.

Always wanted to come and see this area of Angus and it was worth the wait. We have had a marvellous week exploring the glens and surrounding countryside. Staying in this lovely cottage has added to the pleasure of this holiday. First time seeing a newborn foal in the field, hares and a pair of great spotted woodpeckers every day eating the peanuts. What an excellent time. Thanks to the owners for their friendliness.

Hillockhead is a lovely place to stay. We had several walks beside River North Esk. Also climbed in Glen Clova to Loch Brandy. What a beautiful landscape. It is very special to us coming from the flat Netherlands. We never go twice to the same place but we have said to each other "this is the place to come again..."

Very comfortable and relaxing stay. We loved the spacious feel of the cottage and the fact that it is light and airy with a variety of stunning views. Good airing cupboard/boiler room plus entrance porch for coats and welly boots. Fantastic sunsets - we will certainly revisit and recommend to family and friends.

We have had a lovely holiday using this excellent cottage as our base. Ideal for exploring the Angus Glens and other tourist attractions. The birds in the garden, including the woodpeckers, are a real bonus, also the RSPB site at Kinnordy Loch where we saw an osprey.
