A pretty name for an exceedingly pretty house, and known as such because of the swallows which nest each year in the adjacent barn. Lucky holiday makers too will find this charming house a very comfortable nest for a relaxing and peaceful holiday.
It has a courtyard position off a little lane in the tiny hamlet of Trochry, some 4 miles from Dunkeld in Highland Perthshire, with plenty of parking at the back door and, to the front, an enclosed, secluded and idyllic garden, with terrace (furniture), lawns and beds, a resident pheasant, myriad birds including woodpeckers and blue tits, and woodlands at the side where shy deer can often be spotted.
The interior is a revelation indeed, spacious, beautifully furnished and appointed, with two separate sitting rooms, an enormous dining kitchen and two sets of French doors to the garden. Upstairs are three bedrooms, two with en suite showers, and a further shower room. This is a house which cannot fail to delight.
Its wider situation is scarcely less ideal for visitors' maximum enjoyment. Here you are on the road between Dunkeld and Crieff, reached via the beautiful Sma' Glen. Dunkeld is a lovely wee town, with cathedral, and lots of interesting shops and eating places. Just above the town is the Loch of the Lowes, arguably the best place in Scotland for observing the nesting ospreys from the RSPB hide there. The Hermitage at Inver is another spectacular must-see, especially when the salmon are leaping the falls, and offers lovely woodland walks along the River Braan. The surrounding area has lots of places for families to enjoy.
Ten miles or so to the north is Pitlochry, (all facilities, Festival Theatre) the gateway to Lochs Tummel and Rannoch and from where it is an easy journey to Aviemore and the Cairngorms for walking, climbing and ski-ing.
To the south are Perth, Fife and St Andrews, while north east from Dunkeld you can also head over to Blairgowrie and explore the Angus Glens.
For sportsmen, the area offers fishing (permits available in Dunkeld) shooting, golf, riding, in fact just about every activity you can think of is catered for in this very central location.
Parents please note: the back garden has a pond which is not fenced off and which has open access. There is also open access to a burn which flows across the back of the garden.
Bed linen, towels, electricity and the first £25 of oil-CH are INCLUDED in the rental. Up to two well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement. Smoking is not permitted in the house. Water is from a private source which is tested annually. Wi-Fi is available, subject to provider.
