St Fillans, in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, is a perfectly delightful village about 30 miles west of Perth, which stretches along the shores of lovely Loch Earn, famed for its scenery and watersports.   At the end of a tiny lane, in the most peaceful of settings well away from the road, Westholme is a most attractive, traditional semi-detached stone cottage with wonderful views of the hills.  Its large enclosed gardens (furniture) to front and back are visited by an abundance of bird life (you may even spot the occasional red kite or buzzard) and are ideal for children and dogs to play. There is plenty of parking right at the door and the shores of the loch are just a five-minute stroll away.

The accommodation on offer here is both cosy and comfortable.  Downstairs you will find a spacious sitting room with open fire, a separate dining room, well-equipped galley kitchen, conservatory and cloakroom, while upstairs are two large bedrooms (one super-king zip and link and the other a twin) and a bathroom.  Efficient oil central heating supplements the open fire.  There is also a large, lockable garage providing secure storage for a car, bikes, canoes etc.

So now that you are comfortably settled here, what is there to do?  Well, in addition to the aforementioned watersports, and the many nearby cycle routes  there is good fishing in the loch (permits available in the village) while the St Fillans Golf Club is within walking distance and also offers a welcoming clubhouse serving meals and refreshments.  The surrounding hills offer great walking, while if you are feeling more energetic, you can tackle Ben Vorlich, which rises from the south side of the loch.  There are riding stables 12 miles away at Crieff Hydro.

The main road to Lochearnhead and pretty Killin runs along the north shore of the loch, but the tiny single track South Loch Earn Road should not be missed.  Peaceful and leafy, the views are superb and its little sandy and rocky coves provide picnic places in heavenly settings where children will play happily for hours in the shallows of the loch.

St Fillans has several hotels/bars, a shop and cafe while Comrie, 6 miles to the east, has more shops and a small supermarket.  It is also the entry to remote Glenlednock and the spectacular Devil's Cauldron.  To the east, Perth, Edinburgh, Dundee and St Andrews can all be easily reached, while to the west, fast roads will take you to Glencoe and even to Oban and the west coast or south to Callander, Stirling and Glasgow.

Bed linen, towels, heating and electricity are INCLUDED.  Up to two well behaved pets are welcome by arrangement.  Sorry no smoking.  An annex in the garden may be available for two extra guests (charge).  Wi-Fi is available, subject to provider.

Fantastic week. Cottage lovely and well equipped, like home from home. We were looking for a peaceful week and we sure found that here. The garden is wonderful and we were fortunate with the glorious weather.

We've had a totally relaxing week of mixed weather so have had it all - lovely walks locally and lovely sleeps in the very comfy beds. We love the cottage and will recommend it to our friends. St Fillans is a lovely spot to which we will return. Thank you!

Thanks a lot for the warm welcome in this beautiful and well equipped home. We had a great time here although the weather was mostly grey and wet. But we have seen some sun. We visited the Killin Highland games, Glasgow, Edinburgh, the Pass of Killiecrankie, the Falkirk Wheel and walked on the dry days. The kids were excited about the Wendy house.

Lovely well equipped cottage. So peaceful and great views. We were unlucky with the weather but we came to chill out and did. St Fillans an ideal base, loved it. There is good walking for the dogs. Thanks for the extras. Will recommend to all!

Thank you for a very warm and friendly welcome in Scotland. We spent a wonderful week and enjoyed the landscape at the door. The cottage is well equipped and very comfortable. We did some trips to Stirling, Edinburgh and Loch Lomond - so we saw a lot.

We had a lovely stay in your very comfortable house. Blessed with good weather. Can recommend water skiiing at Lochearnhead, walks up to Ben Vorlich and Ben Lawers. Even squeezed in the Highland games at Crieff. Thanks for the excellent bottle of wine and chocolates. A highly recommended place to stay.

Thanks for accepting our last minute booking. House peaceful, comfortable and well-equipped. Thanks. Fabulous walks all around. We had a lovely meal at the Achray House Hotel - to be recommended. Will recommend Westholme to friends. Comrie shops and fish and chip shop good.

Said we'd be back. Can I say that Westholme should stay exactly as it is. Once again, our stay was really enjoyable, despite some wet and windy days. The accommodation really makes a difference. At the end of the day, it makes it home from home. Yes, once again, we will be back if you'll have us.

We have so enjoyed our stay in your cosy cottage. Weather could have been kinder, but we have out and about. Bille, our 2-year old Bassett hound loved the Westholme dog basket. Thank you for the treats - much appreciated. We shall be back.

2 weeks of bliss. Our first time in Scotland and it was FANTASTIC. Cottage beyond our expectations. Very comfy and warm and very large. Lovely to come back to in the evening. Love the whole area. Been on some lovely walks and seen some amazing sights. Thank you so much for everything, including the lovely gifts you left for us on the first night. Alfie loved his luxury bed and his doggie treats. We definitely hope to return.
