Lovely Loch Lomond is surely one of the most popular tourist destinations in Scotland. And it's easy to see why: the wonderful combination of the loch, dotted with little islands, and the surrounding hills, with proud Ben Lomond towering over all, plus the fact that it is just half an hour's drive from Glasgow. While the west shore of the Loch is highly developed and can be very busy, Loch Lomond Lodge is situated at the end of the wee road that leads up the much more peaceful east shore. Right beside the loch, with superb, uninterrupted views across the water, and right at the foot of Ben Lomond itself, its position could hardly be bettered. French doors open to a terrace area to the front (furniture) where you can relax and enjoy your surroundings, A couple of steps down take you to a huge, open grassed area, surrounded on two sides by the loch, perfect for children to play within sight of their parents and for lads and Dads to kick a ball around to their hearts' content.
One of four lodges right on the lochside, the comfort within this beautifully appointed, 5-star pine lodge more than matches the stunning situation. You will find a spacious living area, warm as toast with an excellent gas flame effect stove, a superbly equipped modern kitchen, two double bedrooms, both with king-sized beds and one with en suite shower, a further twin bedroom with TV and play station, and an additional bathroom with Jacuzzi and a separate shower. There is even a state-of-the-art sauna. What more could you ask?
Serious walkers will probably don their boots and head straight up the Ben (with the comforting thought of that Jacuzzi and sauna to come home to!) Ben Vrackie and Beinn Urd are also close by and offer good walking opportunities. There is the additional bonus that the West Highland Way passes within a few hundred yards of the lodge. There are some excellent marinas on the loch, or you can launch your boat straight from the shore outside (small charge) as there is access to a slipway, private jetty and small beach. There is a golf course at Balloch at the foot of the loch, or, of course, you can try the new Championship course on the west shore.
While you are here, you will wish to visit the lovely Trossachs, and the Lake of Menteith, immortalized by Scott in his 'Lady of the Lake'. From the foot of Loch Lomond, a good road will take you via Crianlarich to Oban and the west coast, or, via Tarbert and Arrochar over Rest and Be Thankful to Loch Fyne and Inveraray. Those with even a passing interest in art or architecture, will enjoy a visit to Charles Rennie Mackintosh's Hill House, just 20 miles away at Helensburgh. Glasgow, so easily reached by car or train from Balloch, is an amazing city, with places of interest, shops, eateries, theatres and attractions to rival any European Citybreak destination. Whatever you do, you know that when you return you can relax on the terrace of the Lodge with your evening drink and contemplate that lovely, peaceful view. And when the pangs of hunger strike, Rowardennan Hotel is just a few minutes walk away through the trees (reductions for tenants.)
There is a shop in Balmaha (5m) and Drymen (11m) has a Spar supermarket.
Bed linen, towels, heating and electricity are all INCLUDED. The Lodge has a payphone. Sorry, no pets and smoking is not permitted within the lodge.
