Cringletie Cottage has a lovely peaceful location on a small hill-farm just short of 3 miles north of the attractive country town of Peebles (shops, pubs, most facilities) on the River Tweed, and a half-an-hour's drive south of Edinburgh. It stands detached, almost one mile off the A703, reached via a tarmac road as far as the well-known Cringletie House Hotel and then by a quarter-mile track (a bit bumpy) behind the hotel which takes your car right to the door of the cottage and then peters out.
The cottage faces south so is delightfully bright and sunny. It has its own secluded garden (furniture), just beyond which is a small pond, which adds to the rural idyll, with uninterrupted views over open hilly countryside where the owner's shaggy but shy and gentle Highland Cattle often graze. It is newly decorated, cosy and comfortable, and is ideal for those who like to be off the beaten track but within very easy reach of Edinburgh, a choice of shops and restaurants, and many many excursions.
The surrounding area provides great opportunites for walking. Peebles has an excellent golf course, with another one just beyond at Cardrona. The Tweed is legendary for its fishing and also has stretches which are excellent for canoeing. There are riding stables at Peebles Hydro and the town also has a leisure centre with swimming pool etc. While you are at Cringletie, you may wish to visit Traquair, the oldest continuously inhabited house in Scotland, the Bear Gates of which will not be reopened until a Stuart once more sits on the throne of Scotland. Neidpath Castle, an old Scottish keep, is just outside the town and merits a visit. In fact the whole area is noted for its castles, keeps, ruined abbeys and stately homes.
The Cringletie House Hotel serves lunches and dinners so is a very welcome neighbour - completely out of sight - but a conveniently short walk away when some serious celebrating is planned.
Heating is by wood-burning stove, night-store and convector heaters (logs, and £10 worth of electricity INCLUDED). Bed-linen and towels are INCLUDED. We regret that pets are not accepted. Smoking is not allowed within the house.
