Turnberry - all over the world the name instantly conjures up firstly, the legendary golf course, and secondly, the world famous hotel which overlooks it, the outline of which is familiar from countless photographs and pictures.

Royal Troon, another name that will resound with golfers, is 25 miles away.  There is also a huge marina there and superb beaches, where you can kitesurf.  In fact there are lovely sandy beaches all along this coast, perfect for long leisurely walks.  Other attractions include trout fishing in the Ayr, and horse riding.  From Ardrossan (35m), you can take a day trip over to the lovely island of Arran.

Ayr is, of course, right in the centre of Burns Country and there are many interesting sites connected with the poet to visit round about.  Dramatic Culzean Castle, the top floor of which was gifted to President Eisenhower in 1945, is also well worth a visit.
