If you are a golfer, the word 'Archerfield' will already have you head up, scenting the wind.  For Archerfield,  22 miles east of Edinburgh is right next door to world famous Muirfield itself   The new Renaissance Course at Archerfield, from which you can actually see Muirfield, is very exclusive and is open for memberships as are the two Archerfield Links courses on the East of the Estate.  You are also surrounded by several of the best golf courses in the country.

Archerfield Neuk is a quite charming first floor apartment, a conversion of part of the complex of erstwhile farm buildings  around the home of the owners, the Duke and Duchess of Hamilton (who leased the land for the Renaissance Course on the understanding that it should be open to non-members).   It stands in extensive parklands, surrounded by a delightful garden, a secluded part of which tenants will have for their own exclusive use.  Inside, it is enhanced by enormous Velux windows, which give a lovely view and make the place as light and bright as can be.  This bijou holiday home has been most comfortably furnished and well appointed by the Duchess, and now is ready to receive not just golfers, but anyone who seeks a holiday in gracious and peaceful surroundings.

You are surrounded here not just by golf courses, but by delightful woodland walks.  You can also drive round the estate tracks and walk across the dunes to the sea shore, where there are deserted sandy beaches, perfect for picnics, and caves to explore.  From there, you will be able to see, just a short distance along the coast, Fidra Island, now an RSPB wildlife reserve and reputedly the inspiration for R L Stevenson's Treasure Island.

In fact, in this part of the world, ornithologists are just about as well catered for  as golfers!  The attractive seaside town of North Berwick is just a couple of miles from the house, and is home to the Scottish Seabird Centre, where you can spend a most interesting day. From there you can watch on screen all the activity on the nearby Bass Rock, one of the premier seabird sanctuaries in the country.  Or why not take one of the boat trips and see it all for yourself?  North Berwick is also a popular base for sailors and canoeists.

The East Lothian coast has many attractions - Dirleton Castle is just along the road, Dunbar Castle, Tantallon Castle is just beyond North Berwick, while down the coast  beyond Cockburnspath, there is the ruin of Fast Castle, where the dramatic situation more than compensates for the fact that there is very little left of the castle itself!  Inland you can head into the Lammermuirs, or visit the Museum of Flight at East Fortune or the Myreton Transport Museum. Lennoxlove House which is home to the Hamilton Collection is in Haddington and is open three afternoons per week.  A day in Edinburgh, easily accessible by train from North Berwick, will also be an essential part of a stay at Archerfield Neuk.

As you would expect from an area which is regularly visited by the Great and the Good of the golfing fraternity from all over the world, there is an excellent range of restaurants in the vicinity, while the nearby small town of Gullane also has a most interesting range of shops and a wonderful delicatessen.

Gas central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are all INCLUDED in the rental.  Sorry, no pets and smoking is not permitted in the apartment.
