Tucked away among the hills of Strathspey, just 20 miles from Grantown, and less than an hour's drive from Inverness airport, is a Highland hideaway which is very special indeed!
Corglass Lodge is a detached, spruce cottage, reached by about a mile of excellent private road which leads you right up into the hills. It stands in its own garden (seating area), well secluded from the owners' house which is the only other dwelling nearby, and is surrounded by the open hills and moor, with a little wooded paddock to the rear, where very friendly Jacob sheep and a tiny Shetland pony are often in residence. The uninterrupted views in every room from the large, double glazed picture windows are quite stunning. There is even a magnificent panorama down the Glenarder Valley which can be enjoyed from the bath!
Inside, the cottage has been cleverly redesigned to give an overall effect of wonderful light and space. There is an open plan living area, beautifully furnished and appointed, a snug double bedroom, while the bathroom has a separate shower - and that superbly situated bath. Oil fired central heating keeps the house toasty warm.
If the interior delights you, the surroundings will, as they say, blow you away. Roe and red deer, hare, grouse, buzzards, hen harriers are all frequently to be seen, while in springtime the vicinity is a prime breeding ground for curlews and oystercatchers. Put on your boots and walk out from the door into the glorious wilderness around you, or make for the Speyside Way, which is only 5 minutes from the cottage. The owners have also made mountain bikes available for hire if you prefer to go on two wheels. There is a stocked trout pool just a few yards from the cottage, where you can try your hand at catching supper. (Rods can be provided.)
As well as golf - there is a 9-hole course 5 minutes away at Ballindalloch, and an 18 hole one at Grantown - and ski-ing in season just half an hour away at The Lecht, more unusual pastimes are also available. The owners specialise in adventure activities and can offer archery, clay pigeon shooting, off-roading and even guided trips by raft or canoe. They can also provide a wealth of information on all the sports you can enjoy in the area.
For a less strenuous day out, there are numerous castles and gardens to visit, and, of course, few come to this area without sampling the produce of at least one of the local distilleries, for here you are very much on the Whisky Trail, with Glenlivet just down the road. (That's some 'local'!). The lovely, sunny Moray coast, with its sandy beaches and quaint fishing villages is, again, just a half hour drive away. At Corglass Lodge, we feel there is little chance of you ever being bored.
Heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are INCLUDED. Sorry, no pets, and smoking is not permitted in the cottage.
