This charming and characterful hideaway has been created as the first floor apartment conversion of an elegant Victorian church, set among the trees in its own grounds just a few minutes walk from the centre of the pretty little town of Braemar (shops, restaurants, pubs) in the heart of Royal Deeside.  It has shared garden/grounds, which runs down to the river behind (trout fishing for maximum two fly rods off its own bank), with fine views to the hills beyond.  There is ample parking - after all, there was once a congregation to cater for - and there is a useful lock-up cupboard downstairs for skis, bikes etc.

The living accommodation is luxuriously appointed, bright and spacious with much use of natural wood.   Original features such as the leaded gothic windows and curving staircases add to its charm.

In addition to its stunning natural scenery, the area is a mecca for walkers, fishermen, skiers, and, of course, in August and September, Royal watchers!  Balmoral Castle (8m) is just along the road.  For serious walkers, the Cairngorms with the reputedly haunted Lairig Ghru are immediately to the north-west, while to the south east there is the challenge of 'dark Lochnagar'.  Skiers have the choice between Glenshee (14m to the south)  and the Lecht (24 miles to the north) where there is also a dry slope for those who wish to try their skill in summer.  Salmon fishermen (with permits) can fish either the Dee or the rather more distant Spey (43m at Grantown).  There are golf courses at Braemar and Ballater (16m).  For students of history, there is a wealth of castles and stately homes to visit.  The 'Granite City' of Aberdeen (57m) is just over an hour's drive  along one of the loveliest roads in the country,  while to the south, the historic and attractive city of Perth  is just under 50 miles away. Visitors can also drive along the infamous Cockbridge to Tomintoul (30m) road, the highest road in Britain, and find out why it is always the first to become impassable in winter weather.  A few miles further brings the visitor to the Glenlivet distillery (39m) on the Malt Whisky Trail, and from there, well, it's downhill all the way!

Heating by electric panel heaters.  Bed linen, towels and the first £10 of electricity included.   Sorry, no smokers or pets.
