Tulloch Cottage is pretty detached cottage which has recently been refurbished to the highest of standards.  The degree of comfort it offers is matched by its peaceful and attractive situation: on a quiet country lane about two miles from the Aberdeenshire village of Lumphanan (pub, shop), it looks out across miles of open farmland to the distant hills beyond and you have the choice of enjoying these views either from the windows, from the surrounding garden (barbecue, chimenea) or from its summerhouse.

Internally the cottage has been furnished with great flair and style.  The bright, south facing sitting room has a wood burner to supplement the oil central heating, there is a smart dining kitchen and additional utility room, two comfortable bedrooms and a bathroom with deep bath and separate shower.  Table football and darts are available in the spacious detached garage.

You are right on the doorstep here for Royal Deeside with all that it has to offer in terms of glorious and majestic countryside, superb fishing on the Dee or other less prestigious rivers, walking, climbing, and ski-ing in winter - the Lecht ski area is just over 20 miles away.  At Aboyne (4m) there is a good selection of shops, restaurants and pubs  and a golf course.  Aboyne Loch offers water ski-ing (booking necessary).  Also near the cottage is the Deeside Activity Centre, offering off-road driving, gokarting etc.  There are further golf courses at Torphins and Tarland.

If your tastes run to less energetic pursuits, then there is no shortage of places of interest.  The area is particularly rich in castles and stately homes.  Craigievar Castle is just up the road, then there is of course Balmoral itself, between Ballater and Braemar, both of which villages are well worth a visit.  Gardens, too, are in good supply, the most notable perhaps being the NTS gardens at Pitmedden and those at Leith Hall.

To the east, you have Aberdeen itself and the fine beaches to the north of the city.

Bed linen, towels, electricity and the first £20 of oil central heating are INCLUDED in the rental.  Up to two well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement, but sorry, no cats.  Smoking is not permitted in the cottage.  Wi-Fi is available, subject to provider.

We've had a very relaxing holiday in this lovely part of rural Deeside. The cottage is very comfortable and so well equipped. The bird feeder is a nice idea and we have seen many different birds. The Coach Inn in Aboyne is great for steak pie and the village has a good shopping selection. Many thanks for a lovely place to stay.

The cottage is fab. Thanks for preparing it so well. All the local info, maps etc was excellent. We covered a fair distance - Lewis Grassic Gibbon Centre, Braemar, Banchory, Ballater, Alford, Insch, Craigievar Castle, Crathes, etc, etc. Heading home with our batteries fully recharged.

A very enjoyable stay here in Tulloch Cottage. Everything that was required was here, very well equipped and extremely well presented. My father enjoyed stocking the bird feeder and watching the birds. Lots to see in the area.

We had a lovely stay at the bungalow Tulloch! Very cosy and well equipped. The TV's in the bedrooms and kitchen and free Wifi are a nice touch. A real home from home feeling. The bird feeder is also a fantastic idea! Thanks for a lovely week in this lovely cottage.

We have had a great holiday and relaxing with plenty to see and do. In and around the cottage is beautiful with lovely scenery and wildlife. We filled the bird feeders on Wednesday night and by Saturday plenty had been eaten. Goldfinches, woodpeckers and others including mink, deer and rabbits to be seen, as well as the farming activity. Balmoral, Alford Transport Museum and the Deeside Railway (steam train) just outside Banchory were all hits.

We've had a really brilliant holiday, very relaxing we could stay for another month. Cottage is outstanding and views to die for. Loved the bird feeders we have them ourselves and loved the daily visit from the cows, they were like family by the end! We will be back.

A very comfortable and peaceful cottage to have a holiday in, everything provided that you would need. The views are beautiful, to wake up to sunshine and the fields and mountains each morning was lovely. Plenty of places to visit, so we enjoyed our week here.

Lovely peaceful cottage, enjoyable despite the stormy weather. Plenty of wildlife. Recommend Glenlivet Estate wildlife tour, red deer rut and Black Grouse.

Parker party, West Yorkshire 27/10/2012

What a wonderful place! We visited as four adults and approached the cottage in the snow. The views were spectacular. After a blast of heat, electric blankets on! The cottage was warm and cosy and perfect for our first evening. The next morning we were amazed by the ever changing scenery and indeed we could have spent the whole week watching the views. A real treat were the birds especially the resident woodpecker!! Perfectly located for us and our plans we had. We had visited for a trip down memory lane for mainly my mum who spent many a holiday here as a child (well Banchory) and loved going back in time to watch the salmon leaping, visit to Auntie Bella's cottage, enjoying a fish supper and walk along the River Dee. Not forgetting High Tea! From Banchory to Braemar we stopped at the many pretty villages, tourist stops, distilleries and seasides the area has to offer. What a treat! Simply the best time to visit with the autumnal colours making the area even more appealing. So a perfect cottage equipped to a high standard, a stunning part of the world made for a perfect half term break. Thank you!!
