You are aiming high indeed when you select Lagganvoulin as your holiday home! This delightful, traditional, detached cottage is 45 miles from Inverness and just about a mile and a half from Tomintoul, which at 1170ft (356m) is the highest village in the Highlands. It has a lovely, secluded, situation in the heart of the Glenlivet Estate within the Cairngorm National Park.
The cottage stands in about half an acre of its own garden ground, with fine views to the Ladder hills to the south and the Cromdales to the north. There is also a suntrap terrace outside at the back, which is perfect for leisurely outdoor breakfasts.
Inside, it is full of charm and character, with a cosy, well fitted kitchen with French doors opening to the enclosed back garden, a separate dining room and an attractive sitting room with log/coal burning stove. A bedroom and two bathrooms and a sun porch complete the downstairs accommodation, with a further two bedrooms upstairs. It is therefore very suitable for party members who might prefer to remain on one level.
There is also a double garage, which the owners have converted into a games room with table tennis and darts, which is sure to keep children and adults alike well entertained.
While you may be content to simply relax and enjoy the peace and the glorious scenery of this quite idyllic location, if you do feel more energetic there is much to see and do in the surrounding area. The eyes of whisky lovers may well have brightened at the mere mention of the Glenlivet Estate, and you are indeed not far from the Whisky Trail, with the Glenlivet distillery just a few miles up the road. In the other direction, the Lecht Ski area is just about 7 miles away, while walkers will find plenty of scope to indulge their passion, with a spur of the Speyside Way more or less on the doorstep. The nearest mountains are Ben Avon and Beinn a Bhuird (both over 3,000ft) to the south and Ben Rinnes to the north, while to the south east there are the Cairgorm Mountains, Loch Morlich and Loch Garten, famous for its ospreys.
Royal Deeside, Braemar and Ballater, Aviemore and Inverness, the sunny, sandy beaches of the Moray coast are all easily accessible from this central location.
Tomintoul itself is a pleasant wee place, with shops, pubs, hotels and restaurants. Horse riding, fishing (permits from the Post Office), clay pigeon shooting and karting are all available locally and there is even an adventure playground in the village!
Oil fired central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are all INCLUDED in the rental. One well behaved pet is welcome by arrangement. Smoking is not permitted within the cottage.
