Mid Fearn House is a 200-year-old large stone mansion house standing in 17 acres of private grounds bordering The Dornoch Firth just south (2 miles) of Bonar Bridge (shops/hotels), 45 minutes drive north of Inverness.
U-shaped, it has two wings on either side behind it which are let separately (see Rowan), but the main house itself is completely self-contained with spacious rooms and windows overlooking its own large garden (furniture). In this peaceful and scenic setting the house is full of character and offers superb holiday accommodation for larger parties or families wishing to holiday together.
It is comfortably furnished with solid pieces dating from Victorian or earlier times. One of the bedrooms has a genuine 4-poster double-bed with silk hangings, there are two separate sitting rooms, an elegant dining room which also contains a piano, and an amazing, large, well-fitted kitchen with a beamed and vaulted ceiling which rests on stone corbels. Mid Fearn is also well-equipped with 2 bathrooms (one marble!), an ensuite shower and numerous pantries and store rooms. Antlers on the walls complete the impression of the traditional Highland hunting lodge, perfect for relaxing after a day on the hills, sight-seeing, or simply relaxing in the glorious countryside roundabout.
Heating is by Aga, wood-burning stove, open-fires and electricity, and there are night store heaters. Bed-linen is INCLUDED. Towels can be hired. Pets are welcome.
Please note that when the house is booked by smaller parties the layout of the house may vary with some parts not being accessible.
As in many places in the Highlands, the local water supply runs through peat soil and can appear very brown, particularly after heavy rain. While its quality is still probably better than many places in the south, if you are concerned about the colour you may prefer to bring bottled water to drink.
