Delightfully situated in the middle of the lush Berwickshire countryside and overlooking the river Blackadder in the south east corner of Scotland, Caldra Garden Cottage is a picturesque and peaceful retreat from the cares of the world. It stands detached and quite alone in its own secluded garden (furniture) while an enticing grass path leads away to the owners' magnificent walled garden beyond. Visitors are welcome to walk here, and its fresh fruit and vegetable produce is available for purchase in season. Just a couple of hundred yards down the hill in front of the cottage is the river, and there is a lovely meadow beside the bridge which is a perfect spot for long lazy summer picnics.
The cottage itself has just been completely refurbished to an extremely high standard, while gas central heating and double glazing ensure its cosiness. The bright and spacious sitting room has a wood burning stove, there is a separate dining room, and the well-equipped kitchen has a Raeburn and a further table and chairs for breakfasting.
For all its rural tranquillity, the cottage is only a 5 minute drive from the attractive little market town of Duns (hotel, pubs, restaurants, all facilities). A further half hour will bring you to the Berwickshire coast, with an excellent beach at Coldingham, the dramatic cliffs and RSPB reserve at St. Abbs, and of course the historic town of Berwick itself, straddling the Border between Scotland and England and much fought over in times past.
From there it is an easy drive to Lindisfarne, Alnwick and Bamburgh Castles and the beaches of the Northumbrian coast. To the north, Edinburgh is within an hour's drive, and to the west, there are all the castles, stately homes, ruined abbeys and beautiful countryside of the Scottish Borders to visit.
There are golf courses aplenty in the immediate area, with very reasonable charges and quiet fairways. Fun fishing is available within ¾ mile of the cottage, there is a swimming pool and tennis courts at Duns and riding at Coldstream (13m).
Heating is by gas central heating (£20 INCLUDED) and wood burning stove (basket of logs INCLUDED, more available for purchase). Electricity, bed linen and towels are INCLUDED. Well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement. Sorry, no smokers.
