The Old Carriage House is a delightful small house hidden off a country lane near the hamlet of cottages known as Edrom in Berwickshire just a couple of miles east of Duns and 14 miles west of Berwick-upon-Tweed and the fast A1.

Standing detached in its own large enclosed garden (furniture) and originally built in the early 1800's as a barn to house the local Minister's horse and carriage, it has now been completely gutted and transformed into this very attractive, solid stone, bright and airy house - tastefully furnished and equipped to a high standard - which is ideal for two couples or a family.

From this base, as well as all the castles, houses and magnificent scenery of The Scottish Borders, visitors can also explore the historic (wonderfully sandy) Northumberland Coast, Holy Island (Lindisfarne) and Hadrian's Wall - while a visit to Edinburgh by train from Berwick-on-Tweed might be a welcome respite for the driver.

Heating is by electric night-store heaters (INCLUDED) and open-fire (some wood INCLUDED).  Bed-linen and towels are INCLUDED. Pets are welcome under control.  Smoking is not allowed inside the house.

A peaceful retreat. Paxton and Manderston both well worth a look. We saw 17 species at the bird table including the great spotted woodpecker - a joy.

We've had a wonderful week in this delightfully peaceful cottage. The birds in the garden have been really exciting to watch. Lots of walking - Duns town trail is worth doing as is the walk at St Abbs nature reserve.

Eckley family, North Yorkshire 31/07/2010

Lovely cottage and great walks - great for the dog. Everyone around is very friendly. Very picturesque scenery. The cottage has everything you need, with some good homely touches. We all enjoyed our first taste of Scotland!

We booked here for our honeymoon. We were not sure how it was going to be but on our arrival we had a good welcome by the owner. The cottage is lovely and we had a great time. Oh, the lemon cake was really nice and we enjoyed it. The birds were wonderful to watch as well as the rabbits and pheasants. We enjoyed sitting in front of the log fire in the evenings. We hope to return again.

Lovely 'homely' feel to the cottage with wonderful countryside. Thank you very much for the cake and the wood for the fire! We took plenty of walks and sight seeing and will recommend the cottage to anyone. Many thanks.

Our first trip to Duns. The cottage is great. Plenty of things for both adults and children. The garden was perfect for playing with the kids and the dogs. The birds were a real bonus. An ideal base for exploring the coast or the Borders! Many thanks to Jeremy and Christine for going the extra mile to ensure we had everything we needed.

The whole experience of this holiday was superb. A home from home - cannot fault any part of it and would recommend it to anyone. 5 star all round.

Second time here in a year! Love it! Great garden for Fudge to run around in. Great for wildlife, birds on the bird table, rabbits in the garden and spotted the owl one night. Thanks for the fab cake - will be back again!

Spent a wonderful week sightseeing around the Borders. Great to come home each day to such a comfortable cottage and peaceful garden. Thanks for your lovely welcome and the lemon cake.

What a fantastic relaxing break in a wonderful home from home environment. The cake and flowers in every room was a very welcome touch. Being keen naturalists the surrounding gardens and extensive wildlife was a bonus. We logged 25 different species of birds and 3 mammals. Enjoyed it so much we will be returning in 5 weeks' time, can't wait.
