Trimontium, from which the house takes its name, is a Roman fort that sits at the base of the legendary Eildon Hills. It is an ideal venue for larger gatherings of family and friends, with lots of room for everyone.
The expansive open plan living area is bright and airy with plenty of comfortable seating and a large wall-mounted TV. The well-equipped kitchen area has a handy dishwasher that is ideal for clearing up after convivial evening meals and there is a dining area, with a piano alongside. There is also a handy utility room that houses the laundry facilities and a separate second sitting room for the party to spread out into, with a TV and even a pool table.
There are two downstairs bedrooms, a double and a single, and a shower room that are very suitable for less able guests.
Upstairs are a variety of bedrooms, two doubles, a twin and a triple room with three single beds. There is also a further shower room and a bathroom with two baths, no less. The large upstairs landing and hallway make an excellent play area for children.
The house stands in its own enclosed garden, with decking to the front and a lawned area that offers fine views of the surrounding area.
Midlem is a pretty little village clustered round a village green and is within easy reach of the towns of Selkirk and Melrose.
Selkirk (5 miles) has a golf course and a swimming pool, and just down the road from the house, Braidwood Clays offers clay pigeon shooting.
Melrose (7 miles) has lots of interesting little independent shops, as well as a deli, butcher, greengrocer and plenty of pubs and eateries. Melrose is well known for the Melrose Sevens rugby tournament that is held annually in the town, drawing teams and spectators from all around the world.
It is also home to Melrose Abbey, one of four famous ruined Abbeys in the area. The others are sited at Dryburgh, Kelso and Jedburgh and there are both walking and cycling routes that allow you to take in all four.
The surrounding area offers a host of attractions including riding, walking, mountain biking, fishing, historic castles and stately homes to visit, to name but a few.
It is just over an hour's drive to Edinburgh, or 50 minutes by train from Galashiels (8 miles), if you fancy a visit to the bustling capital with its array of shops, museums, theatres and galleries. History enthusiasts will also want to make sure they visit commanding Edinburgh Castle and the Queen's official Scottish residence Holyrood Palace. The Berwickshire coast, with its fine sandy beaches and rugged cliffs, is also easily reachable for day trip.
