The apartment is set out on the first and second floors with stairs leading up from the courtyard garden. Inside the accommodation is presented to an incredibly high standard and is very stylish throughout. The sitting room is warm and inviting with a pretty decorative fireplace and a neat dining area. The colourful kitchen is bright and very well-equipped for cooking and even baking, if the bakery below inspires you.
The bedroom accommodation has been set up to provide maximum flexibility for different parties. There is a single bedroom and a bathroom on the first floor and upstairs are a sumptuous master double bedroom, an additional attractive double bedroom, a single bedroom and a modern shower room with walk-in shower.
The apartment is accessed down a passageway from the street and has a lovely courtyard seating area that is a real sun trap making it the ideal place to enjoy an alfresco breakfast or afternoon tea.
As you are so centrally located you will find everything you could need within easy walking distance. There are several cafés and lots of interesting little shops to discover, as well as a butcher, fishmonger, PO and a couple of small supermarkets. There is also a larger supermarket on the outskirts of the town for stocking up further.
If you fancy a break from cooking, you are spoilt for choice with a range of excellent pubs and restaurants just down the road off the town’s charming cobbled square.
The stables at Nenthorn (4 miles) offer horse riding and lessons and the town has a race course runs a programme of horse racing events throughout the year. Fishing is available on the famous River Tweed and there is a golf course either in Kelso itself, or on the well known Roxburghe Golf Course just 10 minutes’ drive away.
Walkers will be spoilt for choice with wonderful, expansive countryside all around and lots of hills to climb including the Cheviots and the delightful Eildons that can be seen for miles around. Once you have admired Kelso’s impressive Abbey you can take in the others at Jedburgh, Melrose and Dryburgh by following the Borders Abbeys Way. This circular walking route is 66 miles in total and there are smaller sections you can tackle, in between stopping to explore the interesting towns en route.
The whole of the Borders is drenched in history with many stately homes to visit, including the impressive Floors Castle that sits in a magnificent position looking out over the River Tweed. Tours of the castle itself are available and its excellent cafés and plant nursery are also very popular.
A train link from Tweedbank (16 miles) provides easy access up to Edinburgh for a day’s shopping or sightseeing. If the weather is good the superb sandy beaches at Coldingham Bay and Cocklawburn are reachable in under an hour’s drive, although even on a breezy day a walk along the shore is still enjoyable and certainly blows the cobwebs off! After your exertions it is worth making a pit stop in Eyemouth to sample the excellent fish and chips down by the harbour.
