This traditional cottage has been lovingly refurbished and it is beautifully presented throughout. The stylish sitting room is very cosy and inviting with a wood-burning stove at its heart and French doors that brighten the room and lead out to the garden. The kitchen is light and airy with a handy hatch through to the separate, spacious dining room making meals that bit easier to serve.
The accommodation is set out all on one level with two attractive double bedrooms (one king-size) lying off a central hallway and an attractive bathroom with the choice of a luxurious slipper bath or the modern walk-in shower.
The cottage sits in an enclosed garden laid mainly to grass with parking on the roadside right beside the cottage or off road parking in front of the garage to the side of the garden.
For evening meals out it is only a 5 minute walk along the pretty banks of the Culter Water to the Mill Inn that serves excellent pub meals and also has a whisky bar where you can sample a ‘wee dram’.
There are lots of interesting little shops to peruse in Biggar (2.5 miles), as well as supermarkets, a famous ice cream shop and an award-winning chippy. The town also has a golf course and at Biggar Public Park is another golf course, a putting green, tennis court, café and a little boating lake where boats can be hired.
Biggar has become known as Scotland’s ‘museum town’ with several different museums to visit. The Biggar and Upper Clydesdale museum offers an interesting insight into the history of the town and its people, while the Biggar Gasworks is the only preserved gasworks left in Scotland.
For a really special day to remember you can book an early morning hot air balloon ride from Shieldhill Castle (5 miles) and take in amazing expansive views of the whole area. If you prefer your feet to stay firmly on solid ground there are some wonderful views to enjoy from the top of Tinto Hill or Culter Fell, both of which are popular with local walkers.
Lanark (12.5 miles) has plenty of shops and eateries, a swimming pool and a train station. You can fish for carp and pike in Lanark Loch (day tickets available) or take a relaxed stroll around the loch, keeping an eye out for the ducks and swans, and perhaps finishing with a meal at the Inn on the Loch.
History enthusiasts will love visiting the New Lanark World Heritage Village (13 miles), an 18th century cotton spinning mill village with lots of interesting exhibitions that explain all about its history and painstaking restoration. The nearby Falls of Clyde waterfalls are quite a sight to behold and there are some lovely walks to be had along the banks of the River Clyde. There is lots of wildlife to spot along the way including kingfishers, otters and even peregrine falcons in season (Mar to Jun) - one of the fastest birds in the world that can reach speeds of over 200mph during dives.
For more serious shopping the cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow are both easily reachable in about an hour’s drive. If you fancy a day trip to the seaside the sandy beaches at Gullane or North Berwick on the east coast beckon and there are also several first-rate golf courses along that stretch of coastline.
