Appletree Cottage stands in an oasis of a large Victorian walled orchard, (recently planted fruit trees) yet it is just yards from the centre of Newton Stewart in Bonnie Galloway.  Converted from an old steading, it has been a labour of love for the owners with a view into making it their retirement home.

The cottage is beautifully appointed retaining the character of the building at its heart, with an open plan living area and French doors leading outside to the patio for outside living.  Downstairs, there is a twin bedroom and ensuite ideal for those of limited mobility.  A spiral staircase takes you to a spacious bedroom with a super king-size bed, with ensuite bathroom with a large bath. Finally, a Juliet balcony overlooks the orchard and patio. Within the living area there is a study space with an abundance of books and games, plus maps and guides of the area

Newton Stewart is the 'gateway' to the hills and forests of Galloway.  Mountain biking trails are nationally recognised as being one of the very best. Nearby, there is golf, fishing, riding, water sports plus award-winning gardens making Newton Stewart the ideal holiday destination. Our 2011 visitors' comment on the diverse wildlife including red squirresl and red kites.  There is now a 24-mile Galloway Kite Trail round Loch Ken, where it is almost always possible to see some of these magnificent birds.  The trail can be tackled by car or cycle, wiith walks, viewpoints and a feeding station. Near Newton Stewart, too, is the RSPB Bird Reserve at the Wood of Cree.  This is also one of the best places in the UK for watching the stars at night!

The beaches round Luce Bay will delight the younger members of the party.  And for a spot of foreign travel, look no further!  Ferries to Ireland leave from Stranraer and Cairnryan and are ideal for a day trip over the water.  There are some very special shopper's deals to be had on fares at various times of the year.

Heating is by gas CH and electric stove (INCLUDED).  Bed linen and towels are INCLUDED.  Sorry, no pets or smoking within the property.

Must be the luckiest holidaymakers around, the sun never stopped shining all week! We love the cottage, when you're inside you get a sense that you're detached from the world, it's so peaceful, yet as soon as you step outside the gates you have everything you need on your doorstep, lovely location.

The Gomersalls, Tyne and Wear 03/01/2010

A lot of thought has gone into preparing for guests. We've had a wonderful stay. Lots of homely comforts. The walking books were very handy.

This has been a lovely relaxing half term break and a romantic getaway for our 4 year anniversary and Valentine's Day.

Rudd party, Glasgow 22/05/2010

We thought the cottage was lovely, of a very high standard and probably one of the nicest cottages we've stayed in.

Croston party, Lancashire 09/04/2011

Appletree cottage was in a fantastic location, everything you could possible need was in easy reach. As previous occupants had said in the visitor book, once you close your door you could be in the country and not in the middle of a town. The Galloway forest is amazing and the walk around Loch Trool is a must! During our stay we went to Ardrossan and caught the ferry to the Isle of Arran . . . a beautiful Island . . . so peaceful and relaxing. The staff at the Stewart Cunningham shop behind the cottage were very helpful in recommending a good local garage when we needed one. We will definitely return to Appletree Cottage as we still have so very much to see in the area . . . thank you to the owner for sharing such a beautiful place. Thank you also to staff at Ecosse for your professionalism in handling our booking.

Weather has been fine all week. Best collection of maps & guidebooks we've ever had in a holiday cottage, much appreciated.

Well appointed cottage which came up to our expectations and even exceeded them. Thanks for the large scale maps - now well used.
