This delightful detached cottage has an enviable situation in the grounds of the owner's house, tucked away at the end of a secluded cul de sac, yet within a few minute's walk of the centre of the bustling town of Dumfries in the south west of Scotland.  It stands in an extensive garden with a further very secluded orchard and vegetable plot just through the hedge.  Depending on the time of year, guests are very welcome to sample freshly grown fruit and vegetables. The cottage will appeal both to families, to sportsmen who come to enjoy the excellent fishing and shooting which is available in the area and to bird lovers.  It is, for example, right under the flight path of the geese who head for feeding grounds from Caerlaverock, where there is a Wildlife and Wetlands Trust Centre.  The RSPB have a further centre on the other side of the Nith Estuary near Sandyhills.

Internally, Laurieknowe offers most comfortable accommodation, with a cosy living room, well-fitted kitchen and two bedrooms.  There is also an attractive porch-sunroom with table and chairs which can be used either for dining or simply for relaxing and taking in the view of the garden.

As a town, Dumfries has much to offer.  There is a railway station, an ice rink, a new leisure centre and a golf course, all within walking distance of the cottage, and of course, plenty in the way of restaurants and pubs.  Nearby too is the Mabie Forest biking facility, which is part of the 7 Stanes Project.

Dumfries is very accessible from the M6/A74 and there are excellent beaches on the Solway coast, just 7 miles away.  The whole Dumfries and Galloway area is well worth exploring, from the lovely Galloway Forest Park around Glen Trool, to the 'food town' of Castle Douglas and lovely Sweetheart Abbey.  Keen walkers can join the Southern Upland Way 25 miles from the cottage at St John's Town of Dalry.  There is excellent shooting and fishing in the area, on which the owner can provide information.  The cottage is also within a 10-minute walk of one of the local golf clubs.

Gas-CH, electricity, bedlinen and towels are all INCLUDED in the rental.  Well behaved pets are welcome by arrangement.  Smoking should be confined to the porch.

We have greatly enjoyed our week here. The children have particularly enjoyed playing in the garden. The house has been such a good base to begin to explore the area - so much to do. Walks, castles, tried kayaking ...... more to come back for. Thanks.

We chose the cottage from the internet from Vienna,Austria and were surprised to find it even more beautiful than the online pictures. We love the quiet garden. The weather is Scottish but today we had breakfast in the garden for first time. We spent a lovely week. Thank you Andrew.

Boy did we pick the best week of the year(weatherwise). What a perfect setting - near the town centre yet close to such beautiful countryside - and the 'Doonhamers' are so friendly. Hope to return very soon.
