Accessed by a little country road that winds up the hill above the Galloway coast near Portpatrick, and then by a private track, Milldown Hill has a really stunning situation with a wonderful outlook over the surrounding countryside.

Newly built and superbly designed, this detached house has Wow! Factor in spades.  It all centres round a large, open plan living area, with a state of the art kitchen with range cooker, dining and family areas, and, from there, doors lead off to the three bedrooms (one en suite), family bathroom, and what must surely be the pièce de résistance, a large, airy sitting room with one wall completely of glass.  The views can therefore be enjoyed from the warmth and comfort of the house as well as from the outside patio.

If all this were not enough, there is a piano in the living area and a play room with sofa bed and play station.

There's therefore plenty to do without even stirring from the house, but for some outside exercise, the Southern Upland Way runs past the end of the drive, so you can stride off either back to its origin at Portpatrick, or east into the Galloway hills.

Portpatrick itself is a lovely wee village, clustered round its harbour with attractive shops and eating places.  The village is en fête for Lifeboat Week in July and there is also a Music Festival there in September.  It also has an excellent golf course with stupendous views, which is only one of several within easy reach of the cottage.

Stranraer has more in the way of shopping, supermarkets etc.  The Rinns of Galloway, that peninsula which protrudes into the Irish Sea, amply repays exploration, with fine beaches, wildlife aplenty and botanic gardens at Port Logan.  There are further famous gardens at Threave Castle and Castle Kennedy.

Luce Bay also offers sandy beaches while The Machars, the area which, to the east, juts down into the Solway Firth, is also hugely scenic.  Inland you have the Galloway Forest Park, which offers excellent cycling trails and water sports.

Bed linen, towels and the first £20 of oil-CH and £20 of electricity are INCLUDED in the rental.  Up to two pets are welcome by arrangement.  Smoking is not permitted in the house.  Wi-Fi is available, subject to provider.

Many thanks for letting us stay at your beautiful home. We have had a very peaceful and relaxing stay. Have enjoyed endless hours sitting on bean bag looking out of the living room window watching the wildlife. During our stay we have seen 4 deer, 3 buzzards, 1 owl, 1 heron, a black rabbit and loads of sheep!! Cottage is very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Even the dogs were catered for. They especially loved their bean bag - they fought over who could lie on it first and the longest. Could not fault a thing with this beautiful home and we will most definitely love to come back. Many thanks to you all.
