Rosslyn Cottage is perfectly situated for visitors who want to be within easy reach of all the attractions of Edinburgh and yet have a quiet rural base.  It is situated just 3 miles from the City Boundary and a mile from the historic village of Roslin,  (shops, hotels), whence buses ply regularly to the centre of town.  The adjoining Lea Farm has a livery establishment and guests can bring their own horse by arrangement.  There are walks (and rides) right from the door in beautiful Roslin Glen and the surrounding woodlands.

The cottage itself stands in a quiet corner of the farm complex, with an east-west aspect so it is bright and sunny all day.  It is unoverlooked, with a secure grassed garden (furniture) to the front and ample parking in the yard at the back.  With a well-equipped kitchen, cosy sitting room with living flame fire, and spacious, comfortable bedrooms, it provides excellent accommodation for up to six people.

Roslin is a delightful village of great historical interest.  It has a ruined castle, but is perhaps best known for the lovely and enigmatic Rosslyn Chapel, built in the mid 15th century.  It has strong associations with the powerful Knights Templar; the Holy Grail, the head of John the Baptist, even the body of Christ Himself are variously claimed to be buried in its crypt.  American visitors in particular will be fascinated by the carvings of Indian corn and other American plants on the pillars.  Legend has it that the grandfather of  the chapel's founder, William St Clair, visited north America a good century before Columbus, and this is borne out in the legends of the Micmac Indians whom he encountered there.

Sporting interests are well catered for in the area.  There is no shortage of excellent golf courses, the nearest at Glencorse (2m).  There is reservoir fishing also within 2m, and the Hillend Dry Ski Slope, the largest in Europe, is close by.  North Berwick, Dunbar and the East Lothian coast are just a half-hour drive away.

Further afield, the cottage has the advantage of excellent motorway connections to the north and west.  The Highlands beyond Perth (50m , all facilities), Stirling (40m) with its castle, Wallace Monument and Bannockburn memorial, are accessible within the hour.  Aberfoyle (60m), The Trossachs, Loch Lomond and even the West Coast are all perfectly feasible for a day excursion.

Heating is by oil central heating (INCLUDED) and living flame electric fire.  £10 of electricity is INCLUDED.  Bed linen and towels are INCLUDED.   Sorry, no pets and smoking is not permitted in the house.

PLEASE NOTE: Special rents apply for this cottage for the weeks of the Edinburgh Tattoo and Festival, Christmas and New Year and are available on application.
