Traquair Cottage is a cosy and traditional, semi-detached cottage which stands in the heart of the Borders, just off the B7062 about 4 miles from Innerleithen and even closer to the famous mountain biking centre at Glentress.  It has a quiet, rural situation with a well-established garden (furniture) and plenty of hill and forest walks right from the door.

Inside, it is simply and comfortably appointed, made snug by night store heaters and an open fire in the sitting room.  There is a neat modern kitchen, downstairs bathroom, and upstairs, two bedrooms, a double and a twin.  It is, in short, an excellent holiday venue either for a family or friends who come here to cycle, walk, ride or simply relax in delightful surroundings.

The nearby village of Innerleithen has a range of shops, pubs and an hotel.  Nearby is Traquair House, reputedly the oldest continuously inhabited house in Scotland, the Bear Gates of which will remain closed until a Stuart sits once more upon the British throne.  As well as being a most interesting house to visit, it hosts many events throughout the year, and also has its own brewery.  So a visit is likely to please all members of the family!

Traquair is also on the Southern Upland Way, upon which serious walkers can strike out either to the east or the west.

For more serious shopping, the pretty town of Peebles (6m) has supermarkets as well as an excellent range of smaller shops, a leisure centre and some good eating places.  Riding may be booked at the Hydro Hotel there.  The MacDonald Hotel at Cardrona, barely a couple of miles from the cottage, has a golf course, as do Innerleithen and Peebles.  The Tweed, as well as being one of Scotland's prime fishing rivers, also has very good sections for canoeing in the immediate area.  If a day in the city appeals, you can be in Edinburgh in under an hour by car, or by bus from Innerleithen/Peebles.  Perhaps you could take in a visit to Roslin Chapel, which featured so notably in The Da Vinci Code, on the way.

With all these activities, not to mention the host of stately homes, castles and ruined abbeys to visit, Traquair is not a cottage at which you will become easily bored!

Electricity and logs are INCLUDED and bed linen and towels may be hired.  One well-behaved pet is welcome by arrangement.  Smoking is not permitted within the cottage.
