The village of Innerleithen lies among the hills to the east of Peebles in the central Borders and is ideally situated for touring in all directions and for enjoying many of the major attractions which the area has to offer. Latterly, it has also become a mecca for mountain bike enthusiasts, with the world-class forest trails at Glentress and the downhill route at Innerleithen itself. (Looking at the pictures of the house on the website, biking enthusiasts will no doubt recognise the hill behind it and see how perfectly placed is this holiday home for them to indulge their hobby.)
Tweedbank House is a spacious, modern, detached house standing in its own attractive enclosed gardens (furniture, barbecue) in a secluded cul de sac on the edge of the village, within easy walking distance of the main street with its interesting little shops and pubs and eating places in one direction and the River Tweed and the Innerleithen biking trail in the other. It faces south, so receives plenty of sunlight for most of the day. There is secure storage for bikes and sports equipment.
Inside, it is a well furnished and most comfortable holiday home. The living accommodation is generous. The large sitting room has an open fire, patio doors to the garden and doors to the separate dining room. There is an additional TV room, also with patio doors. The kitchen is large and well equipped, and there is an additional TV room. The master bedroom has an en suite shower room, and there are three further good-size bedrooms, all with ample storage space. The large garage, accessed through the utility room, has a deep-freeze and a pool table, and is also excellent for the secure storage of sports equipment, cycles etc.
The nearest town is Peebles, another Borders riverside gem, with a further selection of excellent shops and restaurants and a leisure centre. There is riding at the Hydro hotel on the way in to the town. On the far side of Peebles is historic Neidpath Castle, while the gardens at Kailzie and Dawyck are also within easy reach. By continuing across the river from the house, you will come to Traquair House, which is well worth a visit. Walkers will be interested to know that the coast to coast Southern Upland Way passes through Traquair village. The stretch across Minch Muir via the Cheese Well to Yair is a splendid day's hike, and you can catch a bus back at the end of it.
Both Innerleithen and Peebles have excellent golf courses.
Edinburgh (35m) is a further option for a Good Day Out, with buses to the capital passing regularly through Innerleithen. If going into the city by car, you may wish to visit Roslin Chapel on the way, its historic importance now rivalled by its starring role in The Da Vinci Code. Glasgow, too is just over an hour's drive. The World Heritage Site at New Lanark lies in that direction - yet another excellent destination for a family day out.
Gas central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are INCLUDED. One well-behaved pet is welcome by arrangement. Smoking is not permitted in the property. A refundable householder's deposit will be required.
