This attractive semi-detached cottage is situated on a quiet estate in the Scottish Borders between the town of Kelso and the pretty village of Morebattle and is very well-placed for exploring and enjoying this lovely area of Scotland.
South facing, it looks out across a large grass garden (decking area, furniture), part of which has been screened off for guests' exclusive use, and has expansive views over the surrounding countryside. Inside, it is comfortable and well-appointed, with an open fire in the cosy sitting room, a well-equipped kitchen and upstairs a double bedroom and a surprisingly spacious bathroom with separate shower. There is ample offroad parking at the door.
For those who come to the area to walk, Angel Cottage could scarcely be better situated. St Cuthbert's Way, which runs from Melrose to Lindisfarne, passes close to Morebattle (2m) while the Pennine Way ends at nearby Kirk Yetholm. Active guests who prefer more organised sports will find plenty to keep them busy. Kelso has a racecourse and ice rink. There is riding at Nenthorn, and golf at any number of good local courses. This is excellent fishing country as well, with plenty of opportunities not just in the famous Tweed but in many other nearby lochans and rivers. Bowmont Forest is a short walk from the cottage and is served with an extensive network of forest tracks for walking, cycling and riding.
The area is also rich in history, with plenty of stately homes, peel towers and ruined abbeys to visit. Floors Castle at Kelso is perhaps the closest. Historic Berwick on Tweed, for centuries a political football between England and Scotland could also be the focal point for an interesting day out. Then there is the coast itself, with a good beach at Coldingham and the fabulous seabird colonies on the cliffs near St Abbs.
Morebattle has a shop and pub, while Kelso has all facilities, good eating places and a most interesting range of shops.
Heating is by electricity and open fire. Bed linen, towels, firewood and the first £15 of electricity are INCLUDED in the rental. Sorry, no pets and smoking is not permitted in the house.
