Linthill is a peaceful, private country estate between the villages of Lilliesleaf and Bowden in one of the most beautiful parts of the Scottish Borders.  The former coach house and stables stand quite apart and out of sight of other buildings and on one side of the stables yard, facing outwards from it, is Beech Cottage.

This mid-terraced cottage, which would have housed one of the grooms in earlier times, has now been carefully modernised and refurbished to create a most attractive and comfortable holiday home for four people.    The spacious living room has a wood burning stove, there is a well fitted galley kitchen and two bedrooms.  The bay window in the living room looks out on to the grassy expanse in front of the cottage where there is furniture for sitting out in the sun and where children may play with no fear of traffic.

Guests are welcome to explore the estate and enjoy its woods, ponds and romantic bridges.  The riverside walks are particularly beguiling.  The village of Lilliesleaf has two pubs and a café and is within strolling distance.  Just 6 miles away is the picturesque town of Melrose, with its ruined abbey, which also offers an excellent range of shops and restaurants, a golf course, tennis and the famous Greenyards rugby ground.  Galashiels, 4 miles further, has a cinema, swimming pool etc.

Walkers, cyclists, and fishermen all flock to this area.  You may climb the Eildons beside Melrose, or strike out on the Southern Upland and St Cuthbert Ways.  Cyclists will head for the dedicated mountain bike trails at Innerleithen and Glentress, while fishermen have the choice not only of the legendary Tweed,  but a host of other rivers and stocked lochs.

The cottage is also most centrally placed for exploring the Berwickshire and Northumbrian coasts, the Cheviots and Edinburgh itself, all of which are just over an hour away by car.

Heating is by wood burning stove and electricity. Bed-linen, towels and the first £15 of electricity are  INCLUDED in the rental.   Up to two well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement.

Lovely cottage beautiful setting. We enjoyed exploring the river and ponds. The food in the local Plough is great value for money, especially on a Sunday. Plenty of places to go to. Lilliesleaf is a very central place.

Had a lovely time at Beech cottage. Quiet and peaceful, away from the hustle of everyday life. Walks were great around the estate. Saw lots of rabbits and bats in the early evening. Thank you.

This has been a busy week for us. It's been an interesting first visit to the Borders , so much to see and do. We will be back. It was great to come back to the cosy cottage and just relax after a busy day. Our dog Frankie loved his walks around the grounds . Thank you Rob and Carol for a warm welcome.
