Drumlamford in south-west Scotland is a large private country estate of some 1500 acres and a private loch (pike fishing) lying 12 miles north of the small market town of Newton Stewart on the River Cree (shops, hotels, good fishing, luxury mohair goods) and 5 miles south of Barrhill (shop, pub and small railway station) beside the wooded uplands of The Galloway Forest Park.
This area is celebrated the world over for its serene and gracious countryside which rises from the sandy coves and mudflat estuaries (marvellous for bird-watching and sailing) of the Solway Firth to the rolling farmlands, high green hills and hidden lochs of the hinterland.
Golfers can play many small country courses, with famous Turnberry some 20 miles up the coast. Artists will want to paint, visit Kirkcudbright and admire the lovely gardens and mansions. History buffs will be hard put to visit all the castles and sites (including the reputed cave of Robert The Bruce's famous spider) that remind us of this area's very bloody history. Motor-racing fans may want to visit David Coulthard's village of Tywnholm - and some may fancy a day-trip to Ireland on the 'Jetliner' from Cairnryan.
Gower Cottage is a slightly larger detached traditional cottage set behind, and at the side, of Red Cottage in its own pretty grass garden (furniture) not far from both Loch Dornal and Loch Gower. Again very well furnished and equipped, it is a favourite with many individual families, but has also been let jointly with Red Cottage for larger parties.
Heating by wood-burning stove, electricity, bed-linen and towels are ALL INCLUDED. Pets by arrangement.
