Drumlamford is a large private country estate of some 1500 acres and a loch (pike fishing) lying 12 miles north of the small market town of Newton Stewart on the River Cree (shops, hotels, good fishing, luxury mohair goods) and 5 miles south of Barrhill (shop, pub and small railway station) beside the wooded uplands of The Galloway Forest Park.

This area' is celebrated the world over for its serene and gracious countryside which rises from the sandy coves and mudflat estuaries (marvellous for bird-watching and sailing) of the Solway Firth to the rolling farmlands, high green hills and hidden lochs of the hinterland.

Golfers can play many small country courses, with famous Turnberry some 20 miles up the coast. Artists will want to paint, visit Kirkcudbright and admire the lovely gardens and mansions. History buffs will be hard put to visit all the castles and sites (including the reputed cave of Robert The Bruce's famous spider) that remind us of this area's very bloody history. Motor-racing fans may want to visit David Coulthard's village of Tywnholm - and some may fancy a day-trip to Ireland on the Jetliner from Cairnryan.

Maberry Cottage - is a lovely detached Victorian cottage - very comfortably furnished, well equipped and with central-heating - which is set on it own in its own grass garden (furniture) backed by trees, overlooking Loch Maberry where trout-fishing is available.

Heating by wood-burning stove, oil-CH, electricity, bed-linen and towels are All INCLUDED. Pets are welcome.

Also on the Drumlamford Estate -

Gower Cottage (sleeps 6),
Red Cottage (sleeps 4)

Arnsheen Farmhouse (sleeps 8/9)

Clifton party, Lancashire 12/04/2008

We have enjoyed a blissful week here. Had a few trips out but mostly stayed around here and enjoyed the peaceful and beautiful surroundings. Thanks to Claire and Jim for preparing the cottage and being so very helpful.

A beautiful cottage and a stunning location. We've visited lots of cottages in Scotland. This is the closest to home and yet the most remote. A reall chill-out week. Skye off the lead all weeek - loved it!

The Bateson family, Preston 03/10/2009

Lovely cottage with fantastic surroundings and great views. Saw plenty of chaffinches, a wren and a fox, but sadly, no deer. Plenty to do for the whole family.
