Overview

This striking Georgian country house really takes you back in time, combining old world grandeur in stunning surroundings with the benefit of modern home comforts.

The great hall is certainly an impressive entrance to the house with a range of historical memorabilia adorning the walls. The large Victorian kitchen has a traditional 4 oven Aga (there is also an electric cooker for less adventurous cooks) and is well equipped with plenty of room for cooking and even a separate scullery. The house has a housekeeper and a full time cook can also be arranged if you would like a real break away from it all.

The spacious breakfast room (seating 14) creates a lovely informal dining area, while the relaxing library has comfortable seating, an open fire to keep it cosy and even broadband access. There is also a separate laundry room and a drying room on this floor.

Upstairs the large charming drawing room has another open fire to relax by. There is a rather grand formal dining room, as well as a children's room with a TV, DVD player and range of games to keep them occupied. There is also a panelled Chinese boudoir, a twin bedroom and a conservatory that has lovely views out over the grounds.

On the second floor are rest of the bedrooms. There are 3 large double bedrooms, 2 twin bedrooms, 2 single bedrooms and 5 bathrooms in total, all decked out in traditional country styles.

The extensive accommodation on offer means that the house is ideal for family gatherings or large groups of friends holidaying together. Original features have been retained throughout that hark back to times past - the original bells that would once have been used to summon the servants are even still on the walls.

The house is set in extensive, beautiful grounds and woodland that just begs to be explored - you can even see the ruins of Torloisk Castle that still remain to this day. There is a swing and trampoline to keep children entertained (use at own risk) and croquet for all to enjoy.

There is plenty of fishing available in the surrounding lochs and rivers and stalking can be arranged (with a local Ghillie as your guide). The owners can also arrange day boat trips on a new luxury 10.5 metre Rib (with an experienced skipper) at an additional charge.

Map & Local

There are over 300 miles of coastline on Mull that are interspersed with dramatic bays, secluded coves and beautiful beaches. There is a lovely sandy beach just a mile away from the house and there are larger expanses of sand at Calgary beach which is just 6.5 miles away.

Mull is also one of the most accessible of the Hebridean islands as ferries take you across the Sound of Mull from Oban, Ardnamurchan and Morvern at fairly frequent intervals.

Tobermory (13 miles) is the 'capital' of the island, with its brightly painted 18th century houses clustering round the harbour. They border the bay where a Spanish Armada galleon was blown off course in a 16th century storm lies buried in the deep. Duart Castle, the ancient seat of the Clan MacLean, is worth a visit. It is one of the 8 castles along the coast whose beacons in the olden days warned of approaching danger. If you fancy a bit of culture while you're in the area then pay a visit to the famous Mull Little Theatre. For music lovers the Mull Music Festival featuring folk rock and ceilidh bands is held every April at venues across the island.

From Mull the other Hebridean islands are easily accessible by ferry including Iona with its famous abbey and Staffa with its puffin colonies. Boat trips are available to take in some of the local wildlife including golden eagles, puffins, dolphins, basking sharks and even an occasional minke whale.
