It is situated just 1 mile from the village of Bunessan (with shops and hotel) and 6 miles from Fionnphort (Iona Ferry) in the south of the island. It offers a cosy and comfortable 'home from home' and en route from the ferry you will pass through some of the most spectacular scenery that the Western Isles have to offer.
Contemporary houses can sometimes be lacking in character, but that is certainly not the case at Tarbat House, which is presented with considerable style and makes you feel instantly welcome. The large and well-furnished sitting room is made very bright by all the large windows, which afford views both towards the sea and of the plentiful local wildlife, while at night the flame effect fire will give a cosy ambience. It also has French doors that lead out to a small outdoor decking area.
In addition to being eminently practical, the modern and well-equipped dining kitchen is very attractive and there is an additional utility room that provides useful back-up. There are two double bedrooms on this level, one of which has a king-size bed and en suite bathroom with a luxurious corner bath.
Upstairs there is a family room consisting of a double and a single bed along with a separate shower room and WC. Outside there is parking for two cars and a fully enclosed grass garden.
Quality, cosiness and comfort are the keynotes at Tarbat House, and, given its lovely situation as well, it cannot fail to be a winner.
This area is noted for its numerous secluded coves and fine little beaches and you may catch sight of seals, dolphins, basking sharks and even the occasional Minke whale in the surrounding waters.
There is plenty of wildlife to be viewed on land and air as well, including white-tailed sea eagles, golden eagles, merlin and peregrine falcons, with hen harriers and short-eared owls nesting in close proximity to the house. Deer are also seen regularly from the cottage.
For those wishing to learn more about the island's history, the Ross of Mull historical centre is located in the village. No visit to Mull (and particularly this part) would be complete without taking the little foot ferry to Iona from Fionnphort.
It was on Iona that Columba first landed in the country when he brought Christianity to Scotland from Ireland in the 6th century and, with its abbey and silver sands, it remains one of the most atmospheric and peaceful places in all of Britain. Also from Fionnphort, boat trips run to Staffa with its amazing hexagonal rock formations and the legendary Fingal's Cave and the Treshnish Isles, that are home to spectacular seabird colonies.
