This traditional terraced cottage was once, as its name suggests, a fisherman’s cottage that has since been fully modernised and refurbished. The sitting room is cosy and welcoming with a multi-fuel stove at its centre that is perfect for snuggling up in front of in the evenings. There is also a useful dining area that folds away neatly when not in use.
The kitchen is modern and spacious with chic built-in appliances and a large range cooker. Also on this level is a handy downstairs double bedroom with a king-size bed and a wonderful outlook of the loch and a large, fully-tiled family bathroom with a bath and a separate walk-in shower.
Upstairs there are two further pleasantly presented bedrooms, a double and a twin, that both have slightly coombed ceilings and Velux windows from which you can see even further out across Loch Fyne.
Outside there is parking right by the door or in the car park just down the road.
There is also a lovely little seating area just in front of the cottage where you can sit in peace and quiet and admire the loch.
The cottage is only a stone’s throw from Inveraray Jail, which offers a fascinating insight into local history and allows visitors to sample some of the punishments the prisoners used to have to endure.
It is just off Inveraray’s main street where there are lots of little independent shops, a PO, a petrol station and a small supermarket. There are also some eateries in walking distance and a famous whisky shop where you can sample a ‘wee dram’ and stock up.
Inveraray also has a lovely parkland golf course right on the shores of Loch Fyne, with magnificent views to take in (and hopefully not distract you too much) as you play. Just outside the town is the iconic Inveraray Castle, the ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll, which is open to visitors to explore the grand interior, wander around the extensive grounds and make a pit stop at the traditional tearoom.
If you head further north around the top of Loch Awe, just over an hour’s drive away is the resort town of Oban (37 miles). From there you can do some ‘island hopping’ across to the Isle of Lismore or over to the beautiful Isle of Mull to experience the spectacular scenery and over 300 miles of stunning coastline. You can even venture out to further flung islands such as Coll, Tiree and even South Uist.
Heading south from Inveraray down Loch Fyne is Argyll Adventure (2 miles) that has a wide range of outdoor activities including pony trekking, horse riding (lessons available), paintball, bouncy castles and climbing walls. There really is something for everyone!
The National Trust Gardens at Crarae (10 miles) are an ideal place to while away an afternoon and if you carry on further to the Crinan Canal (30 miles) there are some pretty picnic spots where you can relax and watch the boats as they navigate the series of locks. If you are feeling a bit more energetic you can also hire bikes to further explore the tow paths.
