Loch Sunart, near Acharcle, Argyll
House on the Shore is one of a small scattering of houses set in a wonderful peaceful spot right on the pretty shores of Loch Sunart, near Acharacle (6 miles) on the Ardnamurchan peninsula.

The house is being refurbished at the moment and will be available to let from Spring 2017, when guests will be able to fully appreciate both the spacious accommodation and amazing lochside setting. Completed photographs will be added as they become available.
There are steps up to the entrance of the house but once inside the charming accommodation is all on one level with two attractive double bedrooms, two colourful twin bedrooms, a modern shower room with walk-in shower and an additional contemporary bathroom.
The garden is open to the water at the front so care is to be taken (particularly with children). You can fish directly from the shore or just relax and take in the ever changing views across the water, making sure to keep an eye out for the otters and seals that are often spotted playing on the shore right in front of the cottage.
Loch Sunart is the longest sea loch in the Highlands and there are lovely walks to be had along its picturesque shoreline.
The Ardnamurchan peninsula is accessed via the Corran ferry, arriving into Ardgour (25 miles) with the crossing only taking 5 minutes. The peninsula is known for its unspoilt beauty and gorgeous beaches, as well an array of interesting wildlife including buzzards, eagles, herons and pine martens.
Salen (3.5 miles) is just 10 minutes’ drive away where you will find a well-stocked, licensed shop with a café and plenty of fresh local produce on offer and a hotel bar/restaurant where you can enjoy an evening meal.
Heading west from the cottage the RSPB site at Glenborrodale (4.5 miles) has a lovely, peaceful woodland walk to enjoy with a beautiful outlook over to Mull and golden eagles, merlin, redstarts, skylarks and wood warblers to spot along the way. If you are a fan of a ‘wee dram’ you will love the tours and tasting sessions on offer at the Ardnamurchan Distillery (6 miles) where you can sample their fine single malt whisky.
Ferry trips over to the Isle of Mull run out from Kilchoan (16 miles) and you can carry on and reach mainland UK’s most westerly point at Ardnamurchan Point in about an hour’s drive. There are splendid, expansive vistas to admire from the top of the lighthouse, although even from the bottom the views are pretty impressive and you may well spot dolphins, whales and basking sharks. The magnificent beaches of Sanna Bay (21 miles) are also a ‘must visit’ with their gorgeous sprawling white sands and sparkling turquoise waters.
To the eastern end of the peninsula the village of Acharacle (6 miles) has a few shops, a bakery, takeaway, garage and hotel bar/restaurant serving excellent meals, as well as a sandy causeway that allows you to walk over to the famous Castle Tioram. Carry on past Acharacle to Arisaig (33.5 miles) where ferry trips run out to the ‘small isles’ of Rhum, Eigg and Muck and wildlife boat trips offer a closer look at the area’s fascinating marine life. It is well worth continuing further on to Mallaig (41 miles) to take the ferry over to the Isle of Skye for a day trip.
There is plenty to keep you occupied nearby, but if you fancy venturing further afield you can take the Corran ferry back across and head on to Fort William for some serious shopping, to Glencoe or Ben Nevis for some skiing or perhaps even try tackling imposing Ben Nevis itself.
Please note: while we make every effort to be as accurate as possible, the actual position of the cottage indicated on the map above and the proximity of the amenities in the Local Info section cannot be guaranteed to be precise and should be used as a guide only.
