The Old Schoolhouse at Achduart is set in magnificent mountain and maritime scenery just 200 yards from the sea and some four miles from the village of Achiltibuie, north west of Ullapool.

Facing south, towards the Summer Isles and Dundonell Mountains, it stands alone, surrounded by a garden boasting many fine azaleas and rhododendrons.
The house is a spacious old Victorian stone built house that is equipped and maintained to a high standard. It is warm in all seasons and the owners have given much thought to providing everything that guests could possibly require. All the principal rooms are south facing, so they get plenty of light and have enticing views of the sea beyond the garden.
The sitting room with its sunny décor and open fire in one corner is a particularly welcome place to retire to when darkness falls. It was originally the schoolroom, to which children had to walk up to 4 miles along the coast each way to get their education. The dining room, which is equally bright, is very roomy with plenty of space for children to play should they decide to decamp from the adults. It also has an open fire, so cosiness is assured wherever guests choose to sit.
The kitchen is compact but very practical and well-equipped, with a separate utility room and a downstairs shower room. There is also a lovely little sunroom that is the ideal spot to sit and admire the beautiful scenery.
Upstairs, all three bedrooms are attractively furnished. The double and twin are very spacious, while the single, though smaller, has a charm all of its own, not to mention stunning views from its dormer window.
While the gardens are gradually being restored to their former glory, at present they and the wooded area alongside, are a paradise for children to play. Parents should be advised that there are a couple of small ponds and there is also direct access to the shore over a stile, so care should be exercised with very young children.
This is the ideal place to relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of your surroundings and the beautiful scenery right on your doorstep with the sea to the front and mountains to the rear.
There are plenty of quiet walks nearby, including some lovely coastal routes that follow the beaches. The famous cliffs at Reiff also offer excellent opportunities for novice and experiences rock-climbers alike. The area is well known for its wildlife with ptarmigan, golden eagles and lots of other seabirds to be seen, as well as deer, seals and even whales.
Achiltibuie (4 miles) has shops, a petrol station and the renowned Summer Isles hotel/restaurant that provides excellent meals available either at the bar (all year) or in its award-winning restaurant (closed in winter).
Ullapool (27 miles), on the shores of Loch Broom, has hotels, shops, a leisure centre with a swimming pool and even a golf course, so there is plenty to keep you busy if you decide to explore a bit further. From Ullapool you can also take a day trip across to Stornoway, which is the main town on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides that is known for its beautiful sandy beaches.

Bed linen and towels are INCLUDED. Electricity is INCLUDED. Heating is by oil fired central heating (INCLUDED) and open fire (fuel INCLUDED). Satellite broadband up to 1.5GB INCLUDED, subject to provider (not suitable for large downloads or video/TV streaming i.e. YouTube, Netflix). Water is from a private source which is UV filtered and regularly tested; however (as is typical in many parts of Scotland) it can become discoloured, particularly after heavy rainfall. Guests may therefore prefer to bring bottled water to drink. A maximum of 3 dogs are welcome at an additional charge (2 large, 3 medium or 3 small).
